초등교사양성기관의 교육실습 프로그램 개선 연구: 네브라스카 주립대학 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

목적 이 연구는 한국 초등교사양성기관의 교육실습 프로그램 개선을 위한 정책적 시사점을 도출하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 미국 네브라스카 주립대학 링컨캠퍼스(University of Nebraska-Lincoln)의 교육실습 프로그램 자료를 수집하고, 실습프로그램에 참여한 교수, 예비교사, 슈퍼바이저와 면담을 실시하였다. 이어 수집한 자료를 교육실습의 장점, 효과성, 의미를 중심으로 분석하였다. 결과 첫째, UNL에서는 지도교수, 교수, 슈퍼바이저, 담임교사, 코디네이터가 협력적으로 예비교사를 지원하고 있었다. 둘째, UNL에서는 학교 현장과 예비교사의 요구, 사회적 상황을 반영하여 유연하고 탄력적인 교육실습 프로그램을 운영하고 있었다. 결론 연구 결과를 바탕으로 교사양성 과정에 있어 교육실습이 핵심적인 과정이며, 대학 수업과 교육실습 간의 연계성이 필수적이라는 결론을 도출하였다. 이를 토대로 조력자 간의 협력적이고 체계적인 시스템 구축, 담임교사의 역할 및 기준에 대한 검토, 슈퍼바이저의 도입, 교육실습 기관의 확대, 지역 특수성을 반영한 프로그램 강화, 사회 변화와 요구를 반영한 교육실습 운영, 블록 단위 교육과정 검토 방안을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to explore effective practicum models for elementary teacher preparation, with a focus on the practicum program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Methods This study utilized a qualitative case study methodology. Data were collected through desk research and semi-structured interviews with university faculty members, one preservice teacher, and one practicum supervisor. The collected data were analyzed thematically, focusing on identifying the strengths, effectiveness, and significance of the UNL practicum program. Results The UNL practicum program excels in preparing elementary teachers through its collaborative and flexible design. First, preservice teachers receive comprehensive support from a wide network of university faculty, instructors, supervisors, mentor teachers, and field experience coordinators, who work together to guide and mentor them. Second, the program is designed to be responsive and adaptable, reflecting the needs of both schools and preservice teachers, as well as broader societal shifts. Conclusions The study highlights the central role of the teaching practicum in elementary teacher education and emphasizes the need for stronger connections between coursework and field experiences. Key recommendations include building a collaborative support system among faculty, mentor teachers, and supervisors; redefining mentor teachers’ roles; expanding practicum settings; integrating regional characteristics; and structuring courses into thematic blocks. These suggestions aim to strengthen preservice training and better prepare future educators for diverse and evolving classrooms.
