국문 초록

목적 코로나19 시기 이루어진 학사 운영 조정은 학습 결손에 대한 우려를 키웠다. 본 연구는 이러한 우려를 실증적으로 검증하기 위해 코로나19를 경험한 아동의 수리력 발달 양상을 분석하였다. 방법 구체적으로, 코로나19로 인한 학사 운영 조정을 많이 겪은 2020년 초등 입학생과, 상대적으로 적게 겪은 2021년 초등 입학생의 수리력 및 발달을 비교 분석하였다. 아동은 2학년 1학기, 2학년 2학기, 3학년 2학기 세 차례에 걸쳐 각 시기별로 계획된 수직선 추정 과제, 곱셈구구 맞추기 과제, 수학 학업성취도 평가를 온라인상에서 완료하였다. 결과 2020년 초등 입학생과 2021년 초등 입학생의 수 감각 정교성, 연산 유창성, 수학 학업성취도의 유의한 차이는 없었다. 두 그룹 모두 예년과 비슷한 수준의 수감각, 연산 유창성 발달 정도를 보였다. 단, 일부 결과에서 2020년 초등 입학생은 2021년 초등 입학생보다 수리력 발달의 지연 및 문제해결능력이 다소 낮게 나타났다. 결론 이러한 결과를 토대로 코로나19 이후의 아동의 학습 및 발달 회복을 위한 시사점을 논의하고, 코로나19가 아동의 학습 및 발달에 미친 영향을 면밀히 검증하기 위한 후속 연구 방향을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The COVID-19 pandemic-related school adjustments have raised concerns about learning loss. To evaluate this concern, the study analyzed the development of numeracy skills in lower elementary school students who experienced the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods The study compared the numeracy skills and their development in children entering elementary school in 2020, who faced more school disruptions, with those entering elementary school in 2021, who experienced fewer disruptions. Children completed three online measures of numeracy skills: a number line estimation task, a multiplication table task, and a mathematics achievement test across the first and second semesters of 2nd grade and the second semester of 3rd grade. Results Results showed no significant differences in number sense precision, calculation fluency, and mathematics competence between the 2020 and 2021 elementary school cohorts. Both cohorts demonstrated similar levels of development in number sense and calculation fluency compared to pre-COVID-19 years. However, in some outcomes, children entering elementary school in 2020 showed delays in numeracy development and lower levels of problem-solving skills than students entering elementary school in 2021. Conclusions Taken together, we discuss educational implications and suggest future directions to precisely evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on children's learning and development.
