다문화교육 관점에서 본 미국에서의 한국 전통음악 교육현황 및 연구동향

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 다문화 교육관점에서 미국의 국가핵심음악기준(National Core Music Standards)과 음악교재를 분석하고, 국제 학술지에 게재된 한국 전통음악 교육 관련 논문을 분석하여 해외에서의 한국 전통음악 교육에 대한 관심과 현황 등을 알아보았다. 결과를 토대로 관련 연구 분야에 기초자료를 제공하고 한국 전통음악 교육의 발전을 위한 시사점 및 앞으로의 연구방향을 제안하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 방법 이를 위하여 미국 국가핵심음악기준에서 다문화관련 내용을 찾아 의미를 살펴보고, 음악교재 4종에 수록된 한국 전통음악의 수와 종류 등을 알아보았다. 연구대상으로 선정된 논문은 설정된 준거에 따라 연도별, 연구방법별, 연구대상별, 연구주제별로 동향을 분석하였다. 결과 연구 결과에 따르면 음악교재에는 한국 전통음악 관련 내용이 거의 수록되어 있지 않았고, 악곡이 아닌 간단한 소개 정도에 그쳐 분석준거에 따른 분석은 할 수 없었다. 미국 국가핵심음악기준에는 창작영역, 연주영역, 반응영역, 연계영역 모두에서 다문화와 관련된 내용이 포함되어 있었다. 연구 논문은 1999년부터 최근까지 총 9편의 연구가 실행되었는데 인적대상이 6편, 실천대상이 2편, 기타(혼합)이 1편 있었다. 연구방법은 양적연구가 5편, 질적연구가 2편, 문헌연구가 2편이었고, 연구주제는 실태와 현황을 알아본 연구가 1편, 관련변인연구가 1편, 교수학습방법 연구 3편, 교사교육 연구 2편, 인식 및 태도 연구가 2편 있었다. 결론 연구결과에 따른 시사점 및 제언은 다음과 같다. 다문화교육을 위해 음악교재 안에 한국 전통음악이 더욱 많이 수록되어야 하며, 한국 전통음악에 대한 관심과 학문적 탐구가 높아져 국제학술지에 게재되는 연구의 수가 증가해야 할 것이다. 이를 위해서는 학계, 정부, 공공기관 등이 함께 방법을 모색하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구는 4종의 교재를 분석하여 일반화하는데 무리가 있으므로, 앞으로 여러 나라의 많은 종류의 교재가 분석되기를 바란다. 추후 해외에서의 한국의 전통음악 교육 현황을 분석할 때는 음악교재에 수록된 악보가 정확한지, 한국 악곡과 악기 소개, 역사적인 소개에서 틀린 부분은 없는지, 노랫말의 의미를 잘 번역하였는지, 다문화교육 측면에서 한국의 문화를 배우는데 도움이 되는지 등을 면밀히 연구하기를 제안한다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study analyzes the National Core Music Standards of the United States from a multicultural education perspective. It also examines the representation of Korean traditional music in U.S. music textbooks and research articles published in international academic journals. The aim is to provide foundational data on the current state of Korean traditional music education and related research, as well as to suggest implications and future research directions. Methods To achieve this, multicultural content within the U.S. National Core Music Standards was identified and analyzed for its significance. Additionally, four selected music textbooks and materials were examined to determine the number and types of Korean traditional music pieces included. For the selected research articles, trends were analyzed based on criteria such as publication year, research methodology, research subjects, and research topics. Results According to the research results, Korean traditional music was not included in the music textbooks; therefore, analysis could not be conducted based on the established criteria However, the U.S. National Core Music Standards incorporated multicultural activities across all domains, including creation, performance, response, and connection. A total of nine research studies on Korean traditional music education were conducted from 1999 to the present, with six focusing on human subjects and two on practical applications, and one on others. Regarding research methodology, five studies employed quantitative research, two used qualitative research, and two were literature reviews. In terms of research topics, there were three studies on teaching and learning methods, one on the current status and trends, one on related variables, two on teacher education, and two on perceptions and attitudes. Conclusions The implications and recommendations based on the research findings are as follows. The number of Korean traditional music pieces included in music textbooks should be increased, and there should be greater academic interest and exploration of Korean traditional music. This would lead to more research being published in international academic journals, contributing to the academic development of the field. To achieve this, efforts from academia, the government, and various institutions are necessary. Since this study analyzed only four textbooks, generalization is limited. Therefore, future studies should analyze a wider variety of textbooks from different countries. Additionally, future research should closely examine whether the musical scores included in textbooks are accurate, whether the introduction of Korean music, instruments and historical information contains any errors, whether the lyrics are translated correctly, and whether the content effectively helps students learn about Korean culture from a multicultural education perspective.
