고등학생의 영어 자기효능감 수준과 자기효능감 요인 간의 관계 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 고등학생들의 영어자기효능감 수준과 자기효능감 형성 요인 간의 관계를 분석하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 경남 소재 5개 고등학교 338명의 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사는 3주간 온라인으로 진행되었다. 고등학생들의 영어 자기효능감 수준을 파악하기 위해 기술통계를 실시하였으며, 영어자기효능감 형성에 영향을 미치는 요인과의 관계를 분석하기 위해 상관분석, 회귀분석, 그리고 다중회귀분석을 수행하였다. 결과 고등학생들은 비교적 높은 영어 자기효능감을 가지고 있었다. 구체적으로 영어학습에서 자신의 노력에 대한 기대는 높았으나, 시험 성과나 실제 학습 행동에 대해서는 다소 낮은 자신감을 나타냈다. 학생들의 영어 자기효능감과 성공 경험(r=.845), 대리 경험(r=.757), 그리고 사회적 설득(r=.688)은 유의미한 양의 상관관계를 보였으며, 생리적 및 정서적 상태(r=-.388)는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 회귀분석 결과, 학습자의 성공 경험이 영어 자기효능감의 71.4% 변동을 설명하며 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인으로 확인되었다. 대리 경험(57.4%)과 사회적 설득(47.3%)도 유의미한 설명력을 보였다. 표준화 회귀계수(β 값)를 기준으로 평가했을 때, 성공적인 경험(β = .688)이 가장 강력한 예측변수로 나타났으며, 사회적 설득(β = .290), 대리 경험(β = .105), 생리적 및 정서적 상태(β = -.102)는 낮은 영향력을 가지는 것으로 분석되었다. 결론 고등학생들의 영어 자기효능감을 향상하기 위해서는 교수학습 설계에서 학습자들의 성공 경험을 최우선적으로 고려해야 한다. 또한 변화하는 학습환경과 고등학생들의 학습 태도를 반영하여 대리 경험을 다양화하고, 사회적 설득을 극대화하기 위한 피드백 방안을 개선할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study analyzes the relationship between high school students' levels of English self-efficacy and the factors influencing its formation. Methods A survey was conducted with 338 students from five high schools in Gyeongnam, South Korea, over a three-week period through an online platform. Descriptive statistics were used to assess students' levels of English self-efficacy. Additionally, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the relationship between English self-efficacy and its influencing factors. Results The results indicated that high school students generally exhibited a relatively high level of English self-efficacy. Specifically, they showed expectations regarding their efforts in English learning but expressed relatively lower confidence in their test performance and actual learning behaviors. Positive correlations were found between English self-efficacy and successful learning experiences (r = .845), vicarious experiences (r = .757), and social persuasion (r = .688), whereas a negative correlation was observed with physical and emotional states (r = -.388). Regression analysis revealed that students' successful learning experiences accounted for 71.4% of the variance in English self-efficacy, making it the most influential factor. Vicarious experiences (57.4%) and social persuasion (47.3%) also demonstrated significant explanatory power. When evaluated using standardized regression coefficients (β values), successful learning experiences (β = .688) were identified as the strongest predictor, whereas social persuasion (β = .290), vicarious experiences (β = .105), and physical and emotional states (β = -.102) had relatively weaker effects. Conclusions To improve high school students' English self-efficacy, instructional design should primarily focus on fostering successful learning experiences. Additionally, strategies to diversify vicarious experiences and enhance social persuasion through effective feedback should be implemented, considering the evolving today’s learning environment and high school students' attitudes.
