국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 유학생의 심리적 요인인 자기효능감과 자기결정성이 한국어 능력에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이 관계에서 한국에 대한 신뢰감이 조절 변수로서 기능하는지 검토하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 연구를 위해 삼성꿈장학재단의 교육소외 아동청소년 종단연구 자료 중 2023년 국내 대학(원)에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 68명의 설문 데이터를 활용하였다. 주요 변인으로는 종속변수인 한국어 능력(TOPIK 등급), 독립변수인 자기효능감과 자기결정성, 조절변수인 한국에 대한 신뢰감이 포함되었다. 모든 심리 변수는 6점 리커트 척도로 구성된 자기보고식 설문지를 통해 측정되었으며, 변수 간 관계 분석을 위해 상관분석을 실시한 후, 조절 효과 확인을 위한 위계적 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 결과 분석결과, 자기효능감은 한국어 능력에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 자기결정성은 한국어 능력에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 한국에 대한 신뢰감은 자기효능감이나 자기결정성과 한국어 능력 간의 관계에서 조절 효과를 가지지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구는 유학생의 한국어 능력 향상에 영향을 미치는 심리적 요인을 체계적으로 탐색하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 특히 자기효능감이 학습 성과에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 결과는 기존 이론과 상반되는 경향을 보여주며, 과도한 자기효능감이 학습 노력의 저하로 이어질 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한, 자기결정성의 효과가 모든 학습 상황에서 일관되지 않음을 확인함으로써, 문화적 맥락과 개별 학습자의 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 한국어 교육 전략의 필요성을 제기하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of psychological factors—self-efficacy and self-determination—on Korean language proficiency among international students, and to investigate whether trust in Korea functions as a moderating variable in this relationship. Methods For this purpose, data were drawn from a longitudinal study conducted by the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation, targeting underprivileged youth in education. The sample consisted of 68 international students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs at Korean universities as of 2023. The dependent variable was Korean language proficiency (measured by TOPIK level), while the independent variables were self-efficacy and self-determination. Trust in Korea was included as a moderating variable. All psychological variables were assessed using self-report questionnaires based on a six-point Likert scale. Correlation analysis was first conducted to examine associations among variables, followed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis to test the moderating effect. Results The analysis revealed that self-efficacy had a negative effect on Korean language proficiency, while self-determination did not show a statistically significant effect. Moreover, trust in Korea did not exhibit a moderating effect in the relationship between either self-efficacy or self-determination and Korean language proficiency. Conclusions This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the psychological factors influencing Korean language development among international students. Notably, the finding that self-efficacy negatively impacts learning outcomes challenges previous theoretical assumptions and suggests that excessive self-efficacy may lead to decreased learning effort. Furthermore, the limited influence of self-determination in certain learning contexts highlights the need for tailored motivational strategies that consider learners’ cultural backgrounds and individual characteristics. These findings emphasize the importance of context-sensitive and learner-centered approaches in Korean language education.
