소규모학교에서의 상담사 근무 경험에 관한 질적 연구: 전문상담교사가 배치되지 않은 학교를 중심으로

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 전문상담교사가 배치되지 않은 소규모학교에서 근무하는 상담사가 어떠한 경험을 하는지에 대해 심층적으로 탐색하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 방법 상담 관련 대학원을 졸업하고 상담 분야 자격증을 소지하고 있으며 소규모학교에서 3년 이상 근무한 경험이 있는 상담사 2명을 대상으로 2023년 11월 ~ 12월 중 심층 인터뷰를 실시하였고, Yin(2023)이 제시한 질적 연구의 방법에 따라 수집된 자료를 분석하였다. 결과 자료 분석 결과 총 3개의 범주에서 9개의 주제와 31개의 하위 주제가 도출되었고, 이를 바탕으로 전문상담교사가 배치되지 않은 소규모학교에서의 상담사 근무 경험에 대해 ‘개인적 차원의 경험’, ‘학교 체제 차원의 경험’, ‘전문상담교사가 아닌 상담사로서의 경험’으로 나누어 그 의미를 분석하였다. 결론 소규모학교에서 근무하는 상담사는 외부 환경보다는 개인적 요인에 따라 상담사라는 직업을 선택했으며, 또 소규모학교의 지역적 환경, 학생, 학부모, 교사에게 몇 가지 특징이 있음을 경험하였다. 그리고 전문상담교사가 아닌 외부인이라는 특수한 위치로 인해 학교의 폐쇄적인 분위기와 의사소통의 한계를 경험하였다. 마지막으로 소규모학교와 같은 다양한 형태의 학교 및 실무자에 대한 다각적인 이해와 학교상담의 활성화를 위한 차별화된 맞춤형 시스템 구축에 대한 추가 연구의 필요성에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study was conducted to explore in depth the experiences of counselors working in small schools without assigned professional counselors. Methods In-depth interviews were conducted between November and December 2023 with two counselors who had graduated from a counseling-related graduate program, held counseling certifications, and had more than three years of experience working in small schools. The collected data were analyzed using the qualitative research methods proposed by Yin(2023). Results As a result of data analysis, a total of 3 categories,9 themes, and 31 sub-themes were derived. Based on these findings, the experiences of counselors working in small schools without assigned professional counselors were analyzed in three dimensions: ‘experiences at the personal level,’ ‘experiences at the school system level,’ and ‘experiences as counselors rather than professional school counselors.’ Conclusions Counselors working in small schools chose their profession primarily based on personal factors rather than external circumstances. They also experienced distinct characteristics in the regional environment of small schools, as well as in their interactions with students, parents, and teachers. Additionally, due to their unique position as external professionals rather than assigned professional school counselors, they encountered the school's closed atmosphere and communication barriers. Finally, the study suggests the need for further research on a multifaceted understanding of various school types and practitioners, as well as the development of a differentiated, customized system to enhance school counseling in such settings.
