외국인 유학생 학업지속의도에 대한 영향요인에 관한 연구: 확장된 계획행동이론을 중심으로

국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 국내에서 유학생활을 하고 있는 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 이들의 학업지속의도에 영향을 주는 변인을 확장된 계획행동이론의 제 변인을 중심으로 탐색하는 연구이다. 이를 통해 외국인 유학생들의 학업지속의도를 향상시켜줄 수 있는 시사점을 제공하는 것이다. 방법 서울, 경기권에 소재하고 있는 어학당 및 대학교 등에서 유학생활을 하고 있는 외국인 유학생 200명을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 배포하여 연구자료를 수집한 뒤, 통계처리프로그램 SPSS 26.0을 활용하여 기초분석, 상관분석, 회귀분석 등을 수행하여 학업지속의도의 영향요인을 분석하였다. 결과 첫째, 계획된 행동이론 구성변인과 학업지속의도 간 인과관계를 분석한 결과 이들의 유학생활에 대한 태도, 지각된 행동통제 수준은 학업지속의도에 대한 정적 영향요인으로 작용하였고 주관적 규범은 유의한 영향요소가 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 자본요소와 학업지속의도 간 인과관계를 분석한 결과 이들의 한국사회 및 교육기관에 대한 신뢰, 한국인 네트워크 형성수준은 학업지속의도에 대한 정적 영향요인으로 작용하였고 자국인 네트워크 형성수준은 유의한 영향요소가 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 결론 유학생활에 대한 긍정적 태도를 향상시키기 위한 학습환경의 개선, 한류의 특성을 살린 유학 홍보방안에 대한 구상, 경제적 지원제도의 확대가 필요하며 이들의 유학생활 환경을 둘러싼 신뢰를 향상시키기 위한 비자 발급 절차의 간소화, 법률적 지원 제도의 확립, 장학금 제도 확대 등과 관련한 필요성을 제언한다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to investigate the factors influencing international students' intention to persist in their academic pursuits in Korea, focusing on the variables of the Extended Theory of Planned Behavior. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for enhancing the academic continuation intention of foreign students. Methods A structured questionnaire was administered to 200 international students enrolled in language schools and universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Data were collected and analyzed using SPSS 26.0, employing descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to identify the factors influencing academic persistence intention. Results Analysis of the causal relationships within the Theory of Planned Behavior revealed that attitude towards studying abroad and perceived behavioral control significantly and positively influenced students' intention to persist academically. Subjective norms, however, did not exert a significant influence. Furthermore, analysis of the relationship between social capital factors and academic persistence intention indicated that trust in Korean society and educational institutions, and the level of Korean network formation, significantly and positively influenced students' intention to persist. Conversely, the level of network formation in their home country did not significantly influence this intention. Conclusions To enhance international students' academic persistence, efforts should focus on improving the learning environment to cultivate a more positive attitude towards studying abroad. Additionally, strategies to promote studying abroad that leverage the appeal of the “Korean Wave” should be developed. Furthermore, expanding economic support systems, simplifying visa issuance procedures, establishing a robust legal support system, and expanding scholarship opportunities are crucial to fostering trust in the study abroad environment.
