국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 미디어 리터러시 기반의 활동이 대학생의 영어 능력 및 학습 태도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 방법 서울 소재 K대학교의 교양 영어 수업을 수강하는 학생 52명을 대상으로 하였고 애니메이션 어린 왕자를 교재로 이용하였다. 실험 과정은 영화 내용 이해, 언어학습, 주어진 주제로 조별토론, 개별 작문, 공유 활동 순으로 이루어졌다. 이해 및 쓰기 부분의 성취도를 알아보기 위해 두 차례 평가를 실시하였고, 미디어 리터러시 기반의 영어 수업에 대한 학생들의 태도를 확인하기 위해 폐쇄형문항과 개방형 문항으로 구성된 설문을 진행하였다. 결과 사전, 사후 평가 결과, 이해 영역에서 유의미한 상승이 있었다. 쓰기 영역에서는 글의 논리성과 글의 길이에서 유의미한 상승을나타났으나 문법 영역은 차이를 보지 않았다. 설문 결과, 학생들의 참여도, 흥미도, 만족도가 모두 긍정적으로 나타났다. 미디어 리터러시 기반 교육이 학생들의 비판적 사고와 학습 동기를 증진에 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 확인하였다. 결론 이러한 결과는 미디어 리터러시 기반 영어 수업이 이해 영역과 비판적 사고 및 학습 참여와 동기 부여에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of media literacy-based activities on university stu dents' English proficiency and learner attitudes. Methods The study was conducted with 52 students enrolled in a general English course at K university in Seoul, using the animated version of The Little Prince as the main material. The experimental process consisted of un derstanding movie content and language learning, group discussions on given topics, individual writing tasks, and sharing activities. Two tests were administered to assess students’ achievement in the areas of comprehension and writing, and both closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires were conducted to understand students' at titudes and responses to the media literacy-based English lessons. Results The pre- and post-test results showed a significant improvement in the comprehension domain. In the writing domain, there was a meaningful increase in logical structure and text length although no significant differ ence was observed in the grammar domain. Survey results revealed positive feedback regarding student partic ipation, interest, and satisfaction. Additionally, the study confirmed that media literacy-based education plays a crucial role in enhancing students' critical thinking and learning motivation. Conclusions These results demonstrate that media literacy-based English instruction positively enhances stu dents' comprehension, critical thinking, and engagement with learning.
