초등 5-6학년 발달성 난독 학생과 일반 학생의 문단글 읽기유창성 발달 특성

국문 초록

목적 한글은 글자와 소리의 대응이 비교적 투명하기 때문에 읽기 발달 과정에서 정확도와 속도를 모두 포함하는 읽기유창성 능력이 중요한 요인이다. 본 연구는 초등 5-6학년 발달성 난독 학생의 문단글 읽기유창성 능력을 일반 학생과 비교하여 살펴보고, 두 집단별로 학년에 따른 문단글 읽기유창성 발달 특성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법 초등학교 5-6학년에 재학 중인 발달성 난독 학생 32명, 일반 학생 32명이 참여하였고, 각 집단에는 5학년 16명, 6학년 16명이 포함되었다. 한국어 읽기검사(KOLRA)의 문단글 읽기유창성 과제를 실시하여 정확하게 읽은 음절 수, 읽기 속도, 10초당 정확하게 읽은 음절 수를 집단에 따라 비교하고, 각 집단별로 학년에 따른 발달 특성을 살펴보았다. 결과 첫째, 발달성 난독 학생은 일반 학생에 비해 문단글 읽기유창성의 세 가지 측정치 모두에서 유의하게 낮은 수행력을 보였다. 둘째, 발달성 난독 학생은 세 가지 측정치 모두에서 학년에 따른 유의한 차이가 없었으나 일반 학생은 학년이 증가함에 따라 유의하게 읽기 속도가 빨라지고, 10초당 정확하게 읽은 음절 수가 증가하였다. 결론 5학년에서 6학년으로 학년이 올라가며 일반 학생은 문단글 읽기유창성의 발달, 특히 읽기 속도의 향상이 이루어지고 있으나 발달성 난독 학생은 발달이 정체되고 오히려 정확성의 편차가 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 발달성 난독 학생에게 개별 맞춤형 읽기 지원과 함께 읽기 속도 향상을 위한 목표가 고려되어야 한다. 이를 위해 추후에는 오류패턴과 같은 질적인 분석을 포함한 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

Objectives Reading fluency, which includes both accuracy and speed, is a crucial factor in Korean reading development since Korean has a relatively transparent letter-to-sound correspondence. This study aimed to compare text reading fluency between upper elementary students with and without developmental dyslexia and to examine the developmental patterns of text reading fluency across grades within each group. Methods This study included 32 students with developmenetal dyslexia (DS) and 32 typically developing students (TS). Each group consisted of 16 students in 5th grade and 16 in 6th grade. A text reading fluency task was administered to measure the number of correctly read syllables (CR), reading speed (RS), and correctly read syllables per 10 seconds (CR/10). These measures were compared between groups, and developmental differences across grades were analyzed within each group. Results First, DS showed significantly lower performance in all three reading fluency measures compared to TS. Second, while TS demonstrated a significant increase in RS and CR/10 as grade level increased, DS showed no significant grade-related differences in any of the three measures. Conclusions With increasing grade levels, TS exhibit improvements in text reading fluency, particularly in reading speed. However, DS experience stagnation in their reading development, with increased variability in accuracy. Therefore, individualized reading interventions should be provided for DS, with a focus on improving reading speed. Future research should include qualitative analyses, such as error pattern analysis, to suggest appropriate intervention methods.
