국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 한 크리스찬 중년 여성이 성장 과정에서 경험한 장신(長身)으로 인한 트라우마의 본질을 탐색하고, 그 과정에서 치유와 성장을 어떻게 경험하였는지를 연구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 유사한 경험을 지닌 다른 여성들이 자기 수용과 치유의 여정을 모색하는 데 기여하고자 한다. 방법 본 연구는 자문화기술지(autoethnography) 방법론을 적용하여 연구자의 성장 과정에서 경험한 장신(長身)과 관련한 외모적 트라우마 및 이에 대한 회복 과정을 서술하였다. 연구자는 자기 회상과 자기 성찰 기록지, 일기, 심리상담 및 선교사 훈련 과정에서의 내적 치료 경험, 가족과의 대화를 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 결과 연구 결과는 다음의 네 가지 주제로 구성되었다. 첫째, ‘장신(長身)으로 인한 외로움의 시작’에서는 성장기 동안 신체적 특성으로 인해 겪은 심리적 고립과 소외감을 조명하였다. 둘째, ‘커가는 키로 움츠려 가는 나’에서는 신체적 변화에 대한 부정적 자기 인식과 위축된 자아상을 탐색하였다. 셋째, ‘장신의 장벽을 넘은 희망의 날갯짓’에서는 자기 이해와 긍정적 수용을 통한 치유 과정에 대해 논의하였다. 넷째, ‘상처를 넘어선 새로운 비상’에서는 개인의 성장과 함께 신체적 특성을 재해석하며 새로운 자기 정체성을 정립하는 과정을 제시하였다. 결론 본 연구는 장신(長身)으로 인한 외모적 트라우마를 경험한 크리스찬 중년 여성의 치유와 성장 과정을 조명함으로써, 신체적 열등감을 경험하는 여성들에게 치유와 자기 정체성 확립의 가능성을 제시한다. 또한, 본 연구를 통해 신체적 특징으로 인한 심리적 어려움을 극복하는 과정에서의 개인적⋅영적 의미를 탐색하고, 이를 상담 및 심리치료적 개입의 한 방향으로 제안할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to explore the essence of trauma experienced by a Christian middle-aged woman due to her tall stature during her developmental years, and to examine how she has undergone healing and growth throughout this journey. The study aims to contribute to the understanding and support of other women with similar experiences by providing insight into the path of self-acceptance and emotional healing. Methods This study adopts an autoethnographic approach, focusing on the researcher's personal experiences of physical trauma related to her tall stature and the subsequent process of recovery. Data were collected and analyzed through self-reflection, autobiographical writings, personal diaries, experiences of inner healing during counseling and missionary training programs, and conversations with family members. Results The findings of the study are categorized into four main themes. First, “The Onset of Loneliness Due to Height” illuminates the emotional isolation and sense of alienation experienced during childhood and adolescence. Second, “Shrinking Within a Growing Body” explores the development of a negative body image and diminished self-concept. Third, “The Hopeful Flutter Beyond the Barrier of Height” discusses the healing process through self-understanding and positive self-acceptance. Lastly, “A New Flight Beyond Wounds” presents the redefinition of identity and personal growth achieved by reframing physical characteristics in a new light. Conclusions The findings of the study are categorized into four main themes.
