교육대학교와 사범대학 재학생의 학업중단 예측 요인 탐색

국문 초록

교원양성기관의 학업중단은 우수 교원 확보가 어려워짐에 따라 국가교육의 질 저하로 이어질 수 있음에도 불구하고, 실증적인 연구는 전무한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 교육대학교와 사범대학 재학생의 학업중단 예측 요인을 도출하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 한국교육고용패널 II의 1-7차 년도 자료를 대상으로 머신러닝 기법인 XGBoost와 SHAP를 활용하여 학업중단 예측모형을 구축하고, 학업중단에 대한 주요 변수들의 예측력을 분석하였다. 우선 교육대학교와 사범대학 전체 학생을 대상으로 한 분석 결과, 학업중단에 대한 예측력이 높은 변수는 성별(남성), 부모와의 학교생활 관련 대화 빈도(고2), 선생님 수업에 대한 인식(고2), 대학의 해외연수 지원 만족도, 월평균 사교육비(고3) 등인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사범대학 학생만을 대상으로 한 분석 결과, 성별(남성), 대학 학점, 학습방법(고2), 모학력(고졸), 월평균 사교육비(고2) 등이 주요 예측 변수로 도출되었다. 셋째, 교육대학교 학생 대상 분석 결과, 표본 수 제약으로 신중한 해석이 필요하지만 자아효능감(고2), 여성호보자와의 대화시간(고2), 가구 문화생활 지출 비용(고2), 대학 학점 등이 학업중단에 대한 예측력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 분석 결과는 교원양성기관 학생들의 학업중단이 학생의 개인적 특성 및 가정 배경, 고교 경험, 대학 생활 만족도 등이 복합적으로 작용한 결과임을 시사한다. 이에 본 연구는 학업중단 위기 학생 조기 진단 및 이들의 다양한 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 학습․진로지도 강화, 학생들의 학문적 통합과 사회적 통합을 위한 양질의 비교과 프로그램 제공, 교육 현장과의 연계성 강화 및 내실화 등이 필요함을 시사점으로 제안하였다.

영문 초록

Despite the critical0 impact of student withdrawal from teacher education institutions on securing qualified teachers and maintaining the quality of national education, empirical analysis on this issue remains scarce. This study aims to identify the key predictors of academic withdrawal among students enrolled in Universities of Education and Colleges of Education in South Korea. To this end, we utilized data from the first seven waves of the KEEP II employing XGBoost for developing a predictive model and SHAP for interpreting the predictive power of key variables. The analysis of the entire cohort revealed that the most significant predictors of withdrawal were gender(male), frequency of conversations with parents about school life, perception of teacher instruction, satisfaction with university support for overseas programs, and monthly private education expenses. Second, for students in Colleges of Education(training secondary school teacher), the primary predictors included gender(male), university GPA, learning strategies, mother’s educational attainment(high school graduate),and monthly private education expenses. Third, for students in Universities of Education(training elementary school teachers), the analysis indicated that self-efficacy, conversation time with a female guardian, household expenditure on cultural activities, and University GPA were significant variables. These findings demonstrate that student withdrawal form teacher education institutions is a complex phenomenon resulting form the interplay of students; personal characteristics, family backgrounds, high school experiences, and satisfaction with university life. Consequently, this study suggest the necessity of policy interventions, including the early identification of at-risk students, the enhancement of tailored career guidance programs, and the reinforcement of support systems to facilitate adjustment to university life.
