초등교사 임용시험 과목 중 교직논술 분석: 교직수행능력을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등교사 임용시험 과목 중 교직논술 문제(2001학년도부터 2025학년도까지 총 25개년)를 교직수행능력에 초점을 두고 분석한 후 교사교육에 관한 시사점을 도출하였다. 교직논술 문제가 겨냥하는 교직수행능력을 4가지 유형 틀에 따라 분석한 결과, 주로 기술적 능력과 이론의 적용 능력을 평가하는 문제가 많았고 비판적 분석 능력과 성찰 행동 능력을 재는 문제는 적었다. 시기별로 유형간 특별한 패턴의 변화가 감지되지는 않았으므로 교직논술 시험은 교직수행능력에 관해 교사교육기관에게 일관된 신호를 보낸 것이다. 초임교사 선발시험이지만 초임교사의 적응과제나 초임교사의 발달 단계에 어울리는 교직수행능력을 특별히 고려하지 않았고, 오히려 경력교사나 학교행정가의 역할을 묻는 경우가 여럿 발견되었다. 다만, 교육적 가치·목표를 전제로 삼거나 이를 정당화하도록 요구하는 문제가 다수 출제됨으로써 초임교사의 교직 신념을 중요하게 본다는 점은 확인되었다. 그간 선행연구는 교사교육과 임용시험 간 연계 부족을 비판해 왔다. 하지만 교직논술의 출제 경향을 살펴보면, 어떤 유형의 교직수행능력을 준거로 삼느냐에 따라 양자의 연계 여부에 관한 상반된 평가가 모두 가능하였다. 결론적으로 교직수행능력의 성격은 비밀로 남겨둔 채 진행된 그간의 교사교육 논의는 공허한 제자리걸음에 머무른 측면이 있다. 본 연구는 그 비밀의 일부를 드러냄으로써 교사교육 논의가 근거 있게 확장될 수 있는 닻을 제공하였다. 다만, 본 연구의 성과와 결론은 마지막에 제시된 연구의 제한점을 고려하면서 해석·활용되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the previously administered questions from the teaching essay section of the Korean teacher employment examination in order to identify the nature and characteristics of the teaching competencies emphasized in the exam, and to draw implications for teacher education. The analysis was conducted using Kennedy’s (1987) classification of four types of teacher expertise—technical skills, application of theory, critical analysis, and reflective action—based on exam questions from 2001 to 2025. The results indicate that questions targeting technical skills were the most frequently asked, followed by those assessing the ability to apply educational theory. In contrast, questions addressing critical analysis and reflective action appeared only infrequently. This trend reflects growing demands for practical knowledge and professional expertise in teacher education, with the emphasis on technical skills aligning with reforms focused on enhancing field-based practicum experiences. Additionally, the prominence of theory-application questions corresponds to the goal of strengthening professional growth among pre-service and in-service teachers, while also signaling efforts to bridge the gap between educational theory and classroom practice. However, the exam’s focus on technical skills and theory application may limit its capacity to assess teachers’ critical and reflective thinking. These findings suggest that the issue of misalignment between teacher education and the teacher employment examination should be addressed in a more nuanced and multidimensional manner. This study represents the first systematic analysis of the teaching essay section, and while it holds significance in this regard, it also acknowledges limitations, such as the subjectivity involved in classification and the exclusion of other assessment components.
