국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 세상에 알려진 김유정 개작 「홍길동전」의 이본으로서의 가치와 작품세계를 고구하기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 1935년에 잡지 『신아동』에 발표된 김유정 개작 「홍길동전」의 문학적 성과를 통시적, 공시적 관점에서 살펴보고, 내용분석을 통해 이 작품의 제 특징이 무엇인지를 음미해 보고자 했다. 김유정 본은 주요 서사 장면을 간결한 필치로 속도감 있게 보여주고 있어 근대 독자의 독서 감각을 충족시켜 주고 있다. 율도국 건설로 대표되는 후반부 이야기를 완전히 생략해 버리고, 길동이 조선을 떠나는 것으로 처리한 것도 아동 독자를 겨냥해 적당한 분량과 합리적 사건 해결의 모습을 보여주려는 데 있었다. 그러나 기존 작품들에서 보여주던 주제의식과 주요 서사 골격은 그대로 유지한 채 개작에 따른 개작자만의 문제의식을 읽어내기 어렵다. 후반부의 과감한 생략을 시도한 것은 『홍길동전』 이본 중에서 김유정 본이 처음이다. 그러나 어색한 결말 처리나 환상적이고 비현실적인 주인공의 활약상은 김유정 본이 여전히 고소설 서술 전통에서 완전히 벗어나 있지 못했음을 보여준다. 한편 김유정이 고소설 『홍길동전』을 아동용 독서물로 개작하여 세상에 내놓은 이유를 당시 아동문학에 대한 사회적 관심 확대에 따른 출판물의 필요와 작가 개인의 경제적 요인이란 측면에서 찾아보았다. 김유정의 「홍길동전」은 근대 작가의 손을 거친 개작물 중에 최초라는 의의가 인정되나, 작품성이 뛰어나다고 말하긴 어렵다.

영문 초록

It has ever known recently that there was Honggildong-Jeon(洪吉童傳) rewrote by Kim Yu-Jeong(金裕貞) in the New Child[新兒童] magazine published in 1935. This paper is purposed to search for how Kim Yu-Jeong s Honggildong-Jeon is meaningful, and what feature of this new version is. To understand feature of this new version, it is necessary to look at through a content analysis of this work and evaluate characteristics of Kim Yu-Jeong s Honggildong-Jeon in diachronic and synchronic perspective. As a result, we can make sure that Kim Yu-Jeong s version presents the main narrative scenes focusing on the deployment of a fast-paced narrative with concise strokes and meets a sense of modern readers. However, the major narrative skeleton and subject matter in Kim Yu-Jeong s version preserved like existing works, and it s not easy to find his own unique consciousness for rewriting. By the way, scene of yuldoguk(栗島國) s establishment omitted completely from the later story. That is why ending of the story is considered by the time of institution of society and the reality. These drastic omit the latter part of story presents in Kim Yu-Jeong s version for the first time. But, ending of story is so awkward and narration of hero s activity plays in fantastic and unrealistic way. It shows that Kim Yu-Jeong s version was not deviated completely from the expression and narration of old classic novels. In addition to that, there are not enough that Kim Yu-Jeong s adaptation of the classic novel based on the children. We can not understand exactly because of the lack of relevant materials why Kim Yu-Jeong wanted to rewrite Honggildong-Jeon. However, it happened that the interest of the society and intellectual for children s literature expanded gradually, and poverty of Kim s made him to rewrite old classic novel. Although adaptation work clearly has its limitations, Kim s various experimental attempts to rewrite shows that Kim s version occupies a unique position to understand several different versions of Honggildong-jeon.
