기억과 망각의 서사로서의 만주 배경 17세기 전쟁 소재 역사소설 읽기

국문 초록

17세기 초 만주 일대에서 후금과 명, 그리고 조선이 군사적으로 충돌했다. 이때 강홍립의 군대가 명나라 군을 지원하기 위해 출정했다가 후금에 투항한 소위 ‘심하(沈河)의 원정’이 일어났다. 동아시아 국제정세의 변화 속에서 백성들은 전란의 고통과 이산의 슬픔을 처절히 맛보았고, 그러한 체험담이 17세기 전쟁 소재 역사소설 작품에 고스란히 투영되어 나타났다. 그 대표적인 작품이 「최척전(崔陟傳)」·「강로전(姜虜傳)」·「김영철전(金英哲傳)」 등이다. 본고에서는 이 세 작품에 담긴 전란 서사 속 고통과 분노의 시선을 의도성 문제로 접근해 보고자 했다. 이를 위해 17세기 전쟁 소재 역사소설에 나타난 기억과 망각의 존재양상을 크게 네 가지로 나눠 살펴보았다. 즉, (가)서사에서 의도적으로 기억해낸 역사(체험담/이념적 변형), (나)서사에서 의도적으로 망각시킨 역사(시대·사회에 대한 불만과 비판), (다)서사에서 의도하지 않았지만 기억된 역사(리얼리티 획득을 통한 자료의 간접적 복원), (라)서사에서 의도하지 않았지만 망각된 역사(상상·서사적 독법이 요구되는 사건·사실)등으로 대별해 작품에 투영한 서사의 진실 문제를 다루고자 했다.이 중 의도하지 않았지만 기억되거나(다)망각된(라)역사와 리얼리티는 작품의 새로운 의미와 가치 창출이 가능한 것으로 새로운 독법을 요한다고 보았다. 그리고 서사속 의도된 기억과 망각의 주체는 개인적, 또는 집단적일 수 있지만, 비의도적 요소는 작가의 영역을 벗어난 것으로 독자의 소관이라 보았다. 이는 분명 역사가가 역사적 사건을 바라보고 재구성하는 시각과는 다른 접근 방식이라는 점에서 의미가 있다. 후대에 특정 사회가, 작가와 독자가, 그 전란을 기억해 내고 싶어하거나 망각하고 싶어하는 방향으로 역사적 인물과 사건의 의미와 이미지를 결정짓고 그것에 따라 서사라는 겉모습을 만들어 내면, 그것이 결국 하나의 실체요 진실인 양 바뀌기 쉽다. 이러한 사고(의식)의 균열 지점이 이전과 현저히 다르게 나타나기 시작한 것이 바로 17세기였고, 특별히 명·청 교체기에 만주를 중심으로 한 ‘심하의 원정’과 포로 생활기를 다룬 전쟁 소재 역사소설에서 두드러지게 나타났다고 보았다.

영문 초록

Imran(壬亂) and Byeongran(丙亂) in the 17th century arose, and so-called ‘Simha(沈河) Expedition’ which General Ganghongrip(姜弘立) surrendered to the Hugeum(後金) military, also broke out in the same period. East Asia’s changing international situation and suffering of the people dispersed in historical novels was described actually against Manchuria in the 17th century. The representative works are Choicheokjeon(崔陟傳)․Gangrojeon(姜虜傳)․Kimyoungcheoljeon(金英哲傳) and the like. This paper tried to approach in a aspect of history writing problem, and of pain and anger caused by war, contained in these three works. For this 17th-century historical novel in the war appeared in the presence of memory and oblivion divided into four main aspects. That is, (a) history which was memorized intentionally in narrative(experiences/ideological transformation), (b) history intentionally forgot in narrative(age, social discontent and criticism on), (c) history which unintentionally memorized in narrative(the restoration of the data indirectly through the acquisition of reality), (d) history which unintentionally forgotten in the narrative( which requires imagination, historical reading method). Those four main aspects of memory and oblivion in historical novel due to the projection of work you want to deal with the truth of the narrative. History and reality that unintentionally memorized and forgot can be capable of creating new meaning and value of new reading. The subject of memory and oblivion in a narrative can be intended for your personal, or group, but unintentional factors beyond the realm of the artist is the responsibility of the reader. It is important that we have to understand how to be described unintentional memory and forgetting for history in historical novel against manchuria in the 17th Century.
