애정 전기(傳奇)의 소설화 과정에 대한 일고(一考)

국문 초록

본 논문은 수 세기에 걸쳐 나타난 애정 전기를 동질적 요소로 묶어 설명하기보다 작품별, 시대별 차이를 짚어 가면서 그것이 문학사에서 어떤 길항 관계를 형성하며 변모해 나갔는지 살피고자 한 것이다. 이를 위해 애정 전기에 사용된 한시의 음악적 요소를 소설 장르 형성 문제를 이해하는 하나의 근거로 삼고자 했다. 중세문학에는 음악과 언어가 긴밀한 관계를 가졌다. 이때 애정 전기는 서사문학에 음악성(시 삽입)을 적극 부여하고자 한 작품군 중 하나에 해당한다. 시를 활용해 정서와 심리, 그리고 극적 분위기를 연출해 내고자 한 것은 음악적 요소를 염두에 둔, 소수의 애정 전기 향유자들을 위한 성정(性情) 표현의 한 방식이었다. 그러나 17세기를 거치면서 문학 향유 상층 독자의 취향에서 음악적 요소가 차츰 그 위치를 상실하고 만 것이 실상이다. 그것은 서사와 음악(적 요소)의 긴밀한 만남이 종언을 고하게 되면서 본격적 서사가 나타나게 되었음을 의미한다. 애정 전기가 음악성이 배제되고 독자의 음악적 취향이 점차 약화되면서, 소설적 특성을 지닌 작품으로 발전해 나간 과정을 중시할 필요가 있다. 내용 면에서 애정 전기는 17세기 전반에 이르러 현실에 기초한 문제의식이 보다 선명히 드러나기 시작하고 사랑을 추구하는 주체의 욕망 역시 전대의 그것과 질적 차이를 보인다. 이 시기 애정 전기에서 사랑의 방식과 가치관이 변화하는 지점을 발견할 수 있는데, 사랑을 드러내는 담화방식에서 특히 그러한 특징을 확인할 수 있다. 이것들의 질적 차이는 애정 전기작품들이 17세기 이전과 비교해 내적으로 균열된 지점이 있음을 의미한다는 점에서 주목을 요한다. 관념적이거나 맹목적이며, 수사적으로 다가왔던 사랑의 표현 방식을 17세기 이후의 애정 전기에서는 사랑과 결연의 방식과 현실인식 태도 면에서 17세기 이전의 애정 전기와의 거리를 두고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이를 통해 애정 전기가 새로운 모습의 서사, 곧 소설 이라 부를 수 있는 또 다른 특질의 작품군으로 변모해 나간 사실을 읽어낼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is purposed not to treat romantic Jeongi(愛情傳奇) as homogeneous work, which appeared throughout the centuries, but to point out the difference of romantic Jeongi in literary age, and how it transformed under some antagonistic relationship. For this purpose, this paper based on musical element of romantic Jeongi to understand form of fiction genre romantic Jeongi . Music and language had a close relationship in medieval literature. The romantic Jeongi belongs to one of the works which chinese poems(= musical elements) are included in chinese narrative works. Writer intended to create a dramatic atmosphere, character s emotion and psychology by using chinese poems. That is the way how writer expressed to satisfy reader s musical sense in high level. Before the first half of the 17th century, musical elements of romantic Jeongi have an important aesthetic role and distinguished from after the first half of the 17th century. However, literary tastes of the upper class readers gradually escaped from enjoyment of musical elements and as a result of that, chinese poems in romantic Jeongi also got gradually loss of its position, since the first half of the 17th century. It means that encounter of narrative and music(musical elements) is close to end, and appear real narrative similar with novel. Therefore, when dealing with novel forming problem, these points need to be considered carefully. It should not be overlooked that Chinese narrative including chinese poems in the text has developed into novel, a specific genre, in the process of changing of writing consciousness, and musicality excluded, the reader s taste in music also was muted. On the other hand, in terms of romantic Jeongi s content, theme and writer s consciousness became it s peak after the first half of the 17th century. For example, desire for love of main character also made a difference when we compared with the previous period. In the first half of the 17th century, romantic Jeongi works shows that love way of main character and their values for love is changing. Thus in the work of romantic Jeongi , a qualitative difference of the way of describing love shows that there are internal crack in romantic Jeongi itself between before and after the first half of the 17th century. It is because the reader in the 17th century, is not any more interested in blindly ideological and rhetorical expression of love in romantic Jeongi . Instead of it, new readers wanted and are more interested in real love in the routine life. Although the romantic Jeongi s formal cortex is still maintained until the 17th century, but its internal characteristics gradually took on the heterogeneous properties of the genre. Since the 17th century, description of character s love and relationship in works of the romantic Jeongi has developed into the genre that can be called novel in terms of attitude and perception of reality in comparison of romantic Jeongi before the 17th century. Eventually some of works which appeared after the 17th century among romantic Jeongi s works had developed into the works which had characteristics of the novel genre in the internal and external.
