국문 초록

해방에서 전후에 이르기까지 한국 사회는 정치·경제·사회문화 등 모든 분야에서급격한 변화를 겪었다. 한국영화사에서도 해방과 한국전쟁은 중대한 전환점이었다. 일제강점기와 해방 직후까지 영화 산업의 중심은 서울이었으나, 전쟁은 영화 제작과촬영의 무대를 지역으로 이동시키는 계기가 되었다. 또한 지역이 영화의 주요 배경과 서사로 등장하면서 한국영화는 공간적 확장성을 확보할 수 있었다. 전쟁 당시 대구, 부산, 마산 등 피난 지역은 영화 제작이 가장 활발히 이루어진 곳으로, 이들 작품을통해 당시 지역의 현장을 생생히 확인할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 크다. 한편, 이 시기 영화 속 지역 이미지는 도시와의 이분법적 대비 속에서 형성되었다. 지역은 봉건적·전통적 잔재가 남아 있는 공간으로 묘사되기도 했으나, 동시에 순수성과 평온을지닌 유토피아적 공간으로도 재현되었다. 그러나 이러한 긍정적 표상은 전쟁과 전후의 혼란 속에서 붕괴되는 양상도 드러났다. 본 연구는 해방기, 한국전쟁기, 전후라는시기적 연속성을 고려하여 영화 속 지역 표상의 변화를 실증적으로 검토하고, 복원된필름 분석을 중심으로 자료의 확보 경로와 사회적 맥락을 함께 고찰함으로써 지역 표상의 정치적·문화적 함의를 규명하고자 한다.

영문 초록

From liberation (1945) through the Korean War and into the postwar years, Korean society underwent dramatic political, economic, and cultural transformations. The history of Korean cinema also reflects these shifts. While Seoul had long been the center of the film industry, the outbreak of the Korean War led to the relocation of film production and filming sites to regional cities. Evacuation centers such as Daegu, Busan, and Masan became the most active hubs of film production during this period. Films produced there captured the lived experiences of the refugee regions and thus provide valuable historical evidence. The representation of regions in films from this era often took shape through dichotomous contrasts with the city. Regions were depicted both as spaces burdened with feudal and traditional elements and, conversely, as places of purity and peace that contrasted with the alienation of urban life. Yet these utopian images of the region were also shown to collapse under the pressures of war and postwar reconstruction. This study examines the shifts in regional representation across the liberation period, the Korean War years, and the postwar context, combining textual analysis of restored films with historical documentation. By situating filmic depictions within broader sociopolitical contexts, it demonstrates how regional images functioned not only as cinematic devices but also as cultural tools reflecting national reconstruction discourses and modernization debates.
