이 논문은 영화 <500일의 썸머> (Marc Webb, 2009)를 트랜스 아이덴티티 비평의관점에서 분석하며, 미셸 마페졸리(Michel Maffesoli)의 순환 시간성과 디오니소스적현재성 개념을 중심으로 이 영화가 드러내는 정체성 전환의 감정 리듬을 살핀다. 영화는 선형적 시간의 흐름을 따르지 않고, 감정의 파동과 기억의 회귀에 따라 장면을배열함으로써 인물의 변화가 하나의 고정된 자아에서 다른 자아로 향하는 진보적 전환이 아니라, 반복과 흔들림, 감정의 윤무(輪舞) 속에서 발생하는 정체성의 유동적 구성임을 보여준다. 마페졸리의 이론은 이러한 감정의 반복성과 일상성의 감각적 리듬 을 이해하는 데 중요한 이론적 자원이 되며, 이 논문은 <500일의 썸머> 속 주인공 톰핸슨의 정체성 전환 과정을 트랜스 아이덴티티 담론과 순환 시간 개념을 통해 분석함으로써, 영화가 전하는 일상성과 현재성의 미학을 밝히고자 한다. 특히, 본 연구는 이영화가 비선형적 구조를 통해 감정의 순환성과 현재의 강렬함이 만들어내는 ‘다른 방식의 정체성 전환’을 강조하고, 이를 통해 정체성이 단일하고 안정적인 실체가 아니라, 반복되는 관계적 경험 속에서 끊임없이 재구성되는 유동적 과정임을 드러낸다. 또한 트랜스 아이덴티티 비평이라는 관점을 적용함으로써, 성별·자아·관계의 전환을‘이분법적 경계의 이동’이 아니라 감각적 리듬의 재배치로 파악하는 가능성을 제시한다. 본 논문은 궁극적으로 영화 텍스트와 철학적 개념을 접합시킴으로써 감정·정체성·시간성의 교차점을 탐구하는 하나의 방법론적 시도를 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the film <500 Days of Summer> (Marc Webb, 2009) from the perspective of trans-identity criticism, focusing on Michel Maffesoli’s notions of cyclical temporality and Dionysian presentness. The film departs from a linear flow of time, arranging its scenes through waves of affect and returns of memory, thereby portraying identity not as a progressive shift from one stable self to another but as a fluid configuration emerging within cycles of repetition, hesitation, and affective resonance. Maffesoli’s theory provides a crucial framework for understanding these patterns of recurrence and the sensory rhythms of everyday life. In this light, the protagonist Tom Hansen’s process of identity transition is read as a non-linear and affective reconfiguration rather than a singular transformation. By emphasizing the circularity of emotions and the intensity of the present, the film foregrounds a different mode of identity transition—one that unfolds through relational experiences continuously reshaped in time. Applying the lens of trans-identity criticism, this study suggests that shifts in gender, selfhood, and relationality can be interpreted not as movements across binary boundaries but as redistributions of affective rhythms. Ultimately, the paper seeks to demonstrate how cinematic texts can intersect with philosophical concepts to explore the crossings of affect, identity, and temporality, offering a methodological contribution to film and cultural criticism.
