국문 초록

본 연구는 ‘머신 컬쳐(Machine Culture)’라는 개념을 중심에 두고, 기술 환경 속에서 예술이 어떠한 방식으로 생성되고 구성될 수 있는지를 탐색하며, 이를 바탕으로 교양교육에 적용 가능한 수업 설계 모델을 제안하고자 하였다. 머신 컬쳐(Machine Culture)는 인간과 기술이 상호작용하며 문화적 의미를 공동으로 생산하는 구조적 변화의 양식으로 이해되며, 본 연구에서는 이를 철학적·문화론적 관점에서 개념화하고자 하였다. 마우리치오 카텔란의 설치작품 〈Comedian〉을 중심 사례로 삼아, 디지털 수행성, 밈(meme) 문화, 플랫폼 알고리즘 등 기술 매개 예술의 주요쟁점을 고찰하였다. 특히 〈Comedian〉은 수용자의 반응과 기술적 유통망을 통해 예술성이 점진적으로 구성되는 ‘과정적 예술’의 특성을 보여주는 사례로, 인간-기계-사회 간 상호작용 속에서 예술의 의미가 협상되고 생산되는 과정을 드러낸다. 본 연구는 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 머신 컬쳐(Machine Culture) 개념에 기초한 융합형 교양수업 모델을 설계하고, 학습자가 기술-문화 환경에서 예술을 비판적으로 해석하며 수행적으로 참여할 수 있는 교육적 구조를 모색하였다. 수업은 질문 중심과 프로젝트 기반 학습을 결합하여, 비판적 사고력, 창의적 구성력, 시민적 감수성을 함께 기를 수 있는 가능성을 열어 두었으며, 이는 교양교육의 방향성을 재고하는 하나의 실천적 사례로 참고될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study explores how art is generated and constituted within technological environments by focusing on the concept of Machine Culture, and proposes a new liberal arts course model based on this framework. Machine Culture refers to a structural transformation in which humans and technologies co-create cultural meaning. Grounded in philosophical and cultural perspectives, this study critically examines key issues of technologymediated art—such as digital performativity, meme culture, and platform algorithms—through the case of Maurizio Cattelan’s installation work “Comedian”. As a representative example of “procedural art,” “Comedian” reveals how the meaning of art emerges through interactions among users, platforms, and social discourse, rather than through the artist’s intent alone. Building on this analysis, the study presents a liberal arts course model rooted in Machine Culture, enabling learners to critically interpret and performatively engage with art in a digitally mediated world. The course is structured around inquiry-based and project-based learning, designed to foster critical thinking, creative construction, and civic sensitivity. This model offers a practical response to the epistemological and pedagogical shifts required in twenty-first-century liberal arts education.
