심리학과 신학의 통합을 통한 죽음준비 교육 모델 연구 : MACER 이론과 성경의 야곱 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 현대 한국사회의 죽음준비 교육이 실용적 정보 제공에 편중되거나 통합적 접근이 미흡한 한계를 극복하고, 죽음을 삶의 의미를 완성하는 전인적 과정으로 재해석하는 새로운 교육 모델을 제시하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 빅터 프랭클(Viktor Frankl)의 로고테라피가 제시하는 ‘의미 추구’의 실존적 가치와 이명수의 총체적 치유신학이 강조하는 ‘관계적 회복’의 가치를 통합하였다. 그 결과로 M.A.C.E.R.(Meaning, Attitude, Calling, Eschatology, Relationship)라는 5가지 핵심 요소를 갖춘 죽음준비 교육 이론 모델을 제안하였으며, 구약성경 창세기에 나타난 야곱의 사례 분석을 통해 모델의 구체적 적용 가능성을 탐색하였다. 연구 결과, MACER 모델은 죽음준비가 단순한 기술 습득을 넘어 개인의 삶을 성찰하고, 깨어진 관계를 회복하며, 공동체의 성숙에 기여하는 통합적 과정임을 보여주었다. 야곱의 사례는 이 모델의 5가지 요소가 어떻게 유기적으로 작동하여 한 사람의 잘 준비된 죽음이 가족 공동체의 화해와 회복이라는 유산을 남기는지를 실증적으로 보여주었다. 본 연구가 제안하는 MACER 모델은 향후 노인복지기관, 호스피스, 종교기관 등 다양한 현장에서 활용될 수 있는 통합적 죽음준비 교육 프로그램을 개발하는 데 핵심적인 이론적 토대를 제공할 것이다. 이를 통해 우리 사회의 웰다잉(Well-dying) 문화를 더욱 풍성하게 하고, 죽음을 삶의 완성으로 이끄는 교육적 대안을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to overcome the limitations of current death preparation education in Korea, which often focuses heavily on practical information or lacks an integrative approach. It aims to propose a new educational model that reinterprets death as a holistic process of completing the meaning of life. For this purpose, the study integrates the existential value of the 'will to meaning' from Viktor Frankl's Logotherapy with the value of 'relational recovery' emphasized in Dr. Myeong-Soo Lee's Holistic Healing Theology. As a result, this study proposes a theoretical model for death preparation education with five core elements: M.A.C.E.R. (Meaning, Attitude, Calling, Eschatology, Relationship). Furthermore, it explores the practical applicability of the model by analyzing the case of Jacob's death preparation process in Genesis 47-50. The findings show that the MACER model presents death preparation as an integrative process that transcends mere skill acquisition, encouraging personal life review, restoring broken relationships, and contributing to communal maturity. The case of Jacob empirically demonstrated how the five elements of this model can work organically, showing how one individual's well-prepared death can leave a legacy of reconciliation and recovery for the family community. The MACER model proposed in this study will provide a core theoretical foundation for developing integrative death preparation education programs that can be utilized in various fields such as senior welfare centers, hospices, and religious institutions. It is expected to enrich the well-dying culture in our society and offer an educational alternative that guides individuals to see death as the completion of life.
