일본 그림책의 한국어 제목 번역 유형과 의미변형

국문 초록

본 연구는 일본 그림책 제목의 한국어 번역 유형을 알아보기 위해 1989년부터 2016년까지 출판된 일본 그림책 119종을 수집하고 일본어 제목에 대응하는 한국어 제목의 번역 유형을 분석하여 제목 번역에서 나타나는 의미변형에 대해 탐구였다. 그 결과 일본어 그림책이 한국어로 번역될 때는 직역, 의역, 개역, 혼합역, 번안의 번역방식이 사용되었다. 의역의 경우에는 제목 번역의 하위 범주로서 단어의 치환, 단어 및 어절의 첨가와 삭제, 문장형 및 불완전문 종결 형태의 제목이 나타났다. 또한 직역과 번안에서는 나타나지 않은 제목의 의미변형이 의역과 개역에서 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 우리나라번역 그림책 출판에서 큰 비중을 차지하는 일본 그림책의 제목 번역 유형과 의미변형의 예를 알아봄으로써 그림책 및 제목 번역의 중요성과 바른 번역에 대한 인식을 촉구하고 그림책 연구자나 유아교사들의 번역 그림책에 대한 이해를 넓히는 기초자료가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The aims of this study were to explore the types of translation strategies of picturebook titles from Japanese into Korean, and to determine the transformation in meaning according to the choice of translation strategies. For this purpose, 119 Japanese picturebooks translated into Korean, were investigated and their translation strategies analyzed. The results showed that literal translation, free translation, communicative translation and a mixture strategies were used to translate the titles. Among the 119 books, there were 53 (44.54%), 54 (45.38%), each 6 cases(5.04) each of literally translated titles, freely translated titles, communicatively translated and interpretation titles, respectively. Literal and free translation were frequently used more than communicative translation strategies. The translators changed, added, deleted words and phrases in the titles and completed sentences or omitted unfinished sentences in cases of free translation. Additionally, they used 4 free translation strategies mixed with communicative translation strategies. The translator strived to accurately improve the readability in the translations, interpreting the authors' intentions and descriptions, however their attempts sometimes led to mistranslations.
