한국어 형용사 유의어 의미 변별 연구 - ‘꼼꼼하다’류 중심으로

국문 초록

목적: 본고는 ‘꼼꼼하다’ 유의어군을 중심으로 의미 변별 정보를 고찰하고 한국어 교육의 기초자료를 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법: 객관성과 정확성을 갖춘 어휘 분석을 위하여 양적, 질적 연구를 병행하는 방법을 취하였다. 우선 어휘 의미 정보를 고찰하기 위해 말뭉치를 바탕으로 대상 어휘 앞뒤 6어절 범위 내의 공기 명사를 추출하고 범주화하였다. 추출한 명사의 정확성을 위해 실제 맥락에서 목표 어휘와 의미적 호응 관계를 검토하였다. 더불어 고빈도로 출현한 명사들을 중심으로 용례도 함께 살펴보고 의미 변별 기준을 설정하였다. 결과: 각 어휘가 선호하는 주제, 상황 맥락, 표현 양식, 시간의 지속성, 내포 의미, 기타 속성의 기준에 따라 의미 변별 정보를 도출하였다. ‘꼼꼼하다’는 업무나 작업 등 일상적인 상황에 두루 잘 사용하고 검토나 체크 등 실질적 맥락을 선호한다. 성격을 표현하는 데 잘 사용하고 어떤 일이나 업무를 완성도 있고 철저하게 잘하는 특성을 표현하는 데 초점이 있다. ‘세밀하다’는 구체적 또는 추상적 대상에 대한 미시적 관찰·분석의 디테일에 초점이 있다. ‘섬세하다’는 주관적인 예리한 감수성과 감각 능력을 의미하며 예술적 직업이나 추상적 감성과 연관되는 표현을 강조하는 데 잘 사용한다. ‘빈틈없다’는 물리적 상황 맥락에서 비는 공간 없이 촘촘함과 완벽함을 강조하는 데 잘 사용한다. 그리고 경계나 대비하는 맥락에도 잘 사용한다. ‘자세하다’는 정보 전달의 명확성에 중점을 두고 있다. 결론: 본고는 말뭉치에서 공기 명사와 용례들을 살펴봄으로 각 어휘의 의미적 선호와 그 경향성을 밝히고 유의어 변별적 요소를 파악하는 데 의미가 있다. 연구 결과는 언어 교육 현장, 사전 편찬 등 분야에서 활용할 수 있는 근거 자료가 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to examine the semantic distinctions within the synonym group of ‘꼼꼼하다’ (thorough) and to provide foundational data for Korean language education. Methods: To ensure objectivity and accuracy in the lexical analysis, a combined quantitative and qualitative approach was employed. First, to investigate the lexical meaning, collocative nouns within the range of 6 clauses before and after the target lexicon were extracted and categorized. To ensure the accuracy of the extracted nouns, the researchers reviewed whether they shared a significant semantic relationship with the target word in authentic contexts. Furthermore, focusing on high-frequency collocates, example sentences were analyzed in conjunction with them to establish criteria for semantic distinction. Results: Semantic distinctions were derived based on criteria including preferred subject, situational context, expression style, temporal continuity, implied meaning, and other attributes of each synonym. ‘꼼꼼하다’ is widely used in everyday work or task-related situations. It is associated with practical contexts like reviews or checks and often describes a personality trait, emphasizing the quality of completing tasks perfectly and thoroughly. ‘세밀하다’ (detailed) focuses on the meticulous observation and analysis of details, whether in concrete or abstract objects. ‘섬세하다’ (sensitive) denotes a subjective, keen sensibility and is frequently used in contexts related to artistic professions or abstract emotions. ‘빈틈없다’ (flawless) emphasizes perfection without gaps, particularly in physical contexts. Additionally, it is often used to describe the act of cautious vigilance or prevention. Finally, ‘자세하다’ (detailed) centers on the clarity and compre- hensiveness of information being conveyed. Conclusion: This study is significant for its identification of the semantic preferences and tendencies of each synonym and for elucidating their distinguishing features through an analysis of collocational nouns and example sentences. The findings are expected to serve as a foundational resource for applications in fields such as language education and dictionary compilation.
