국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 김승옥의 유일한 SF 소설 「50년 후, Dπ9 기자의 어느 날」의 문제성과 의의를 새롭게 맥락화하는 것이다. 「디파이나인」은 1970년 『동아일보』가 창간 50주년을 기념하여 김승옥에게 의뢰한 소설로, 그동안 콩트로서 다루어져왔다. 한편, SF 소설로서 이 작품은 비교적 최근에 새롭게 조명되고 있다. 두 관점 모두 김승옥의 다른 작품과의 연관성을 드러내는 데 미진하며, 본 연구는 이 연속성을 제시한다. 첫째, 만화나 「무진기행」, 「차나 한잔」과 같은 작품에 나타난 왜곡된 진단과 처방의 모티프는 「디파이나인」에서도 일관되게 제시되고 있다. 둘째, 이러한 사정에는 시사만화가의 경력에서부터 비롯된 김승옥의 정치사회학적 인식이 반영되어 있다. 화성탐사의 의의와 가능성, 출산과 문명을 이어서 사고하는 의식, 당대의 스캔들인 정인숙 사건 등이 「디파이나인」에 직간접적으로 형상화되어 있다. 이러한 일련의 특징은 김승옥이 보여주었던 문학적 형상화의 방식과 깊이 공명하는 한편, 작품을 정치적 비판의 텍스트로 해석될 여지도 남겨둔다. 즉 「디파이나인」은 시대의 환부를 그 자신만의 방식으로 드러낸 김승옥의 중요한 소설 가운데 하나로 이해되어야 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to recontextualize the themes and significance of Kim Seung-ok’s only science fiction work, “50 years from now, One Day of the D.π.9 Editor”. Originally commissioned in 1970 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dong-A Ilbo, “D.π.9” has traditionally been regarded as a conte. However, recent research has rediscovered this concept as science fiction. While both perspectives provide valuable insights, they fail to establish a broader continuum that links “D.π.9” to Kim’s other literary works, which this study seeks to achieve. First, the motif of distorted diagnosis and prescription appearing in Kim’s cartoons and previous works such as “A Journey to Mujin”(Mujingihaeng) and “Shall we have some tea”(Chana hanjan)is consistently presented in “D.π.9.” Second, this recurring motif reflects Kim’s political and sociological awareness, which stems from his career as a current-affairs cartoonist. The work engages with contemporary issues such as the significance of Mars exploration, the symbolic connection between childbirth and the scientific civilization, and the major scandal of the time—the Jung In-sook case—all of which are directly or indirectly reflected in “D.π.9.” Although these features resonate deeply with Kim's mode of literary figuration, they also leave room for the work to be interpreted as a text of political criticism. In this sense, the novel should be recognized as one of Kim’s most significant works, revealing the ills of the 1970s Korean society through his unique literary vision.
