국문 초록

본 연구는 한국어 교육에서 다문화적 요소를 강화하고자 217권의 한국어 교재에 등장하는 366명의 인물을 분석하여, 교재가 다문화 교육에 어떻게 기여하고 있는지를 평가하였다. Banks와 Banks(2016)의 다문화 교육 이론을 분석틀로 삼아 등장인물의 나이, 성별, 국적, 직업을 분석 기준으로 설정하여 정량적 분석을 수행하여, 교재 속 다문화적 다양성을 평가하였다. 분석 결과, 등장인물의 직업은 다양한 사회적 역할을 포함하며, 학습자들에게 현실적이고 균형 잡힌 사회적 이미지를 제공하고 있었다. 국적의 경우, 주요 국가를 포괄하였으나 특정 지역에 편중된 경향이 확인되었으며, 나이와 성별 구성은 대체로 균형을 이루고 있었다. 그러나 일부 교재는 등장인물의 국적과 직업에 있어 제한적인 다양성을 보였으며, 다문화적 감수성을 충분히 반영하지 못하는 한계가 있었다. 본 연구는 다문화적 관점에서 교재 개발의 중요성을 재확인하며, 등장인물 구성의 다문화적 포용성을 확대하고, 학습자들에게 다양한 문화적 맥락을 제공할 수 있는 교재 설계의 필요성을 제안한다. 이러한 결과는 한국어 교재가 학습자들의 다문화적 이해와 상호문화적 역량을 강화하는 데 실질적인 기여를 할 수 있도록 가이드라인을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to strengthen multicultural elements in Korean language education by analyzing 366 characters appearing in 217 Korean language textbooks, evaluating how these textbooks contribute to multicultural education. Using the multicultural education theory by Banks and Banks (2016) as an analytical framework, the study conducted a quantitative analysis based on the characters’ age, gender, nationality, and occupation to assess the multicultural diversity reflected in the textbooks. The results reveal that the occupations of the characters encompass various social roles, providing learners with realistic and balanced social images. While the nationalities represented include major countries, there is a tendency toward concentration in specific regions. Age and gender composition were generally balanced. However, some textbooks demonstrated limited diversity in the nationalities and occupations of characters, reflecting insufficient multicultural sensitivity. This study reaffirms the importance of developing textbooks from a multicultural perspective and suggests expanding the inclusivity of characters to offer learners diverse cultural contexts. These findings provide practical guidelines for designing Korean language textbooks that enhance learners’ multicultural understanding and intercultural competence.
