본 연구는 국외 국가수준 영유아교육과정에서 페다고지 용어 사용의 복잡하고 다양한 의미 맥락에 대해 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 호주, 뉴질랜드, 핀란드의 문서를 따로-함께 읽는 횡단적 읽기를 시도하였다. 데이터 분석은 선형적인 절차에 따르기보다 생성과 해석이 교차하며 반복되는 순환적 과정으로 이해되었다. 그에 따른 연구결과는 첫째, ‘영유아교육과정에 나타난 페다고지의 정의’에서는 ‘지식과 실천, 창의성을 나타내는 교사의 전문성(호주)’, ‘직조된 매트와 같이 흩어지고 엮이는 페다고지 정의의 조각들(뉴질랜드)’, ‘개념과 가치를 함께 지향하는 구체적인 활동성(핀란드)’으로 나타났다. 둘째, ‘영유아교육과정에 담긴 페다고지와 교사의 관계 맥락’에서는 ‘개별 교사의 내재된 전문성(호주)’, ‘교사의 사려 깊고 의도적인 페다고지(뉴질랜드)’, ‘핵심 교육과정과 함께 작동하는 잠재적 페다고지(핀란드)’로 나타났다. 셋째, ‘각 국가별 고유한 페다고지 용어의 변용’에서는 ‘관계적 페다고지와 장소기반 페다고지를 강조하기(호주)’, ‘전체와 부분의 페다고지를 동시에 갖기(뉴질랜드)’, ‘구체적인 실천과 물질성에 무게 두기(핀란드)’로 드러났다. 본 연구는 페다고지라는 개념이 내포하고 있는 풍부한 의미의 다양성을 세 국가별 영유아교육과정의 구체적인 맥락들 속에서 살펴봄으로써, 페다고지라는 용어의 독특한 운동성을 읽어내고자 하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study explores the multifaceted meanings and contextual uses of the term pedagogy in national curriculum for early childhood from Australia, New Zealand, and Finland. To trace the complex and varied meanings of pedagogy, a transversal reading — reading the documents together-apart — was employed. Data analysis was understood as a recursive, generative, and interpretive process. The research findings are as follows: First, definitions of pedagogy as reflected in early childhood curriculum emphasized teacher professionalism as a blend of knowledge, practice, and creativity (Australia), fragments of meaning interwoven like a woven mat (New Zealand), and situated, value-oriented actions (Finland). Second, the relational context between pedagogy and teachers highlighted teachers’ embodied expertise (Australia), thoughtful and intentional pedagogical choices (New Zealand), and latent pedagogical possibilities working alongside the core curriculum (Finland). Third, each country's unique rearticulation of pedagogy included a focus on place-based and relational pedagogy (Australia), a coexistence of holistic and partial pedagogy (New Zealand), and an emphasis on materiality and concrete practices (Finland). By examining the rich semantic diversity embedded in the term pedagogy across these national contexts, this study offers insight into the dynamics and movement of pedagogy, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of its implications for early childhood education.
