유아교사의 문화 간 역량 평가와 증진방안

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아교사들의 문화 간 역량의 발달정도와 특성을 평가한 후 이러한 평가결과에 근거하여 교사의 문화 간 역량을 증진할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 59명의 유아교사를 대상으로 문화 간 역량을 측정하기 위해 IDI(Intercultural Developmental Inventory) version 3 설문지를 사용하였다. 유아교사들의 문화 간 역량의 발달은 평균적으로 지각된 문화 간 역량(PO)은 최소화(46%)와 수용(54%)의 경계수준으로 나타났으며 측정된 문화 간 역량(DO)는 부정지향(15%), 양극화 지향(59%), 그리고 최소화 지향(26%)로 나타났다. 문화 간 역량의 하위척도 프로파일을 분석해 본 결과, 6가지 하위척도 모두 ‘in transition' 단계에 해당되었으며, 문화 간 역량 발달에서 가장 큰 장애물로는 언어적 소통의 한계와 의사소통의 어려움을 들었다. 결론적으로, 유아교사들의 문화간 역량의 발달특성에 근거하여 문화 간 역량을 증진할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the evaluation and development of intercultural competency of early childhood teachers. The specific research questions of this study were as follows. 1. What is the level of intercultural competency of early childhood teachers? 2. What is the tendency of the perceived difficulty of the teacher in terms of intercultural competency? This study used IDI (Intercultural Developmental Inventory) instrument to evaluate the level of intercultural competency of 59 early childhood teachers. The results showed that the teacher's intercultural competency level applies to the stage of denial, defense, and minimization. And the teachers felt handicaps in the area of communication, including language difficulties, when they interacted with multicultural children and their families. In conclusion, we need to provide teacher training for improving the level of teachers’ intercultural competency according to their stage of intercultural competency.
