글 없는 그림책의 글 텍스트 분석

국문 초록

최근 글 없는 그림책에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 관련 출판물과 연구물들이 늘고 있다. 글 없는 그림책은 본문에 글이 없거나 거의 없기 때문에 유아의 주도적이고 다양한 해석이 가능하다. 하지만, 부모나 교사가 글 없는 그림책을 이해하고 유아를 지도하는 데 어려움을 겪고 있다는 점에서 글 없는 그림책 자체의 성격에 대한 체계적인 고찰이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내 출판된 글 없는 그림책 116권의 글을 심도 있게 분석하였다. 본 텍스트의 글은 어떠한지, 주변 텍스트의 글은 어떠한지를 연구문제로 선정하여, 글 없는 그림책에서 글이 어디에 어떻게 쓰여 있고, 본 텍스트와 주변 텍스트에서 어떤 유형으로 나타나 있는지를 분석하였다. 본 텍스트의 글을 인트라-아이코닉 텍스트와 내러티브 텍스트로 나누어 분석한 결과, 전자는 인물, 장소, 사물, 상태, 사건으로, 후자는 등장인물의 말하기, 독자에게 말 걸기, 작가의 이야기하기로 세분화할 수 있었다. 주변 텍스트는 페리텍스트 성격의 글과 에피텍스트 성격의 글로 크게 둘로 나눌 수 있었으며, 그 중 페리텍스트 성격의 글은 문학요소, 에필로그, 정보로 나눌 수 있었다. 본 연구결과는 향후 글 없는 그림책이 어떻게 서사를 만들어 내는지를 고찰하기 위한 의미 있는 기초연구가 될 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

With a growing interest in wordless picturebooks, related publications and studies have increased. Because wordless picturebooks are completely or almost wordless, young children can actively and diversely interpret them. However, parents and teachers face some difficulties in understanding them and guiding young children through them, calling for a systematic study on the characteristics of wordless picturebooks. Accordingly, this study used 116 wordless picturebooks published in Korea for this analysis. With the aim to analyze the characteristics of main texts and paratexts, we investigated where and how words were used and also analyzed the types of main texts and paratexts. The analysis of the main texts, based on two types of intra-iconic and narrative texts, shows that the former can be classified into characters, places, things, states and events while the latter, into characters’ telling, talking to readers, and authors’ narrating. We also showed that the contents of the words in the paratexts could be classified into peritextual and epitexual contents and that the peritextual contents were further subclassified into literary elements, epilogues, and information. This study is expected to serve as fundamental research towards subsequent investigations on how wordless picturebooks construct narratives.
