지역과 연계한 서원 체험학습 교재 개발 - 대구지역 초등학생 현장 체험학습을 중심으로

국문 초록

이 글은 대구지역 공교육 기관을 대상으로 독특한 문화콘텐츠가 내재 된서원에 대해 현실성이 있는 활용을 모색한 것이다. 대구교육청은 지역과 연계한 인성교육과 체험학습의 대상으로 서원과의 협약을 구축한 상태이다. 이에 필자는 현존하는 대구지역 24개 서원을 오늘날 어떻게 활용할 수 있을까 고민하였다. 그래서 가장 현실적 방안인 대구에 소재한 학교의 체험활동에 주목했고, 서원을 활용한 체험학습 자료 개발을 기획했다. 체험학습의 자료는 먼저 정확한 사료에 근거하여 소개하고, 학습자의 학습 수준에 맞춰 구성을 하였다. 또 학습자가 적극적으로 참여 및 사고할 수 있는 방식으로 제작하는 것을 염두에 두었다. 본고에서는 교재에 수록될 대상의 서원은 낙빈[육신사]·녹동·서계서원 3개소를 중심으로 스토리텔링－교사용 교재－학습용 활동지 3종의 개발을 제안하였다. 먼저 인물, 학문, 문화에 주안점을 두고 역사 스토리텔링을 진행했다. 다음 사전 학습용인 교사의 교재는 각 서원의 포맷은 크게 서원의 역사－제향인물 탐구－교실에서 서원 둘러보기－서원 예절로 제작하였다. 그 다음 활동지는 학생들이 서원에 대해서 흥미를 유발하고, 서원 역사에 대해서 이해하기쉬운 방식으로 개발하였다. 체험 학습을 경험으로 친구들과 토론할 수 있는질문과 과제를 제공하고, 본인의 짧은 감상문을 쓰게 하여 의미 있는 시간이되게 해줄 것으로 판단된다. 이를 통해 전통시대 서원의 인문학적 자원을 현대의 교육적 가치로 활용하는 사례 연구가 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This article explores practical ways to utilize seowon (Confucian academies) with unique cultural content for public education institutions in the Daegu area. The Daegu Office of Education has established agreements with seowon as targets for character education and experiential learning linked to the local community. In response, the author considered how the 24 existing seowon in the Daegu region could be utilized today. Therefore, the author focused on experiential activities at schools located in Daegu as the most practical approach and planned the development of experiential learning materials utilizing seowon. The experiential learning materials were first introduced based on accurate historical records and structured according to the learning levels of the students. Additionally, the materials were designed to encourage active participation and critical thinking among the students. In this paper, I propose the development of three types of materials storytelling, teacher's guide, and student activity sheets－centered on three seowon: Nakbin [Yuksinsa], Nokdong, and Seogye Seowon. First, I conducted historical storytelling with a focus on figures, academics, and culture. Next, the teacher's textbook for preliminary learning was created with the following format: history of the seowon, exploration of the figures honored at the seowon, tour of the seowon in the classroom, and seowon etiquette. The activity sheets were developed in a way that would spark students' interest in seowon and help them understand the history of seowon in an easy-to- understand manner. By providing questions and tasks for discussion with peers based on experiential learning, and having students write short reflections, we anticipate that this will create a meaningful learning experience. We hope this will serve as a case study demonstrating how the humanistic resources of traditional seowon can be utilized as educational assets in modern times.
