국문 초록

본 연구는 일제강점기 전주고등보통학교의 학적부 기록을 분석하여, 식민지시기 학교에서 이루어진 학생에 대한 교사의 관찰 기록이 갖는 성격을 규명하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해, 먼저, 각 시기별로 개평서술 방식, 자유기술 방식, 평어선택 방식 등으로‘개성조사’의 기록 방법이 변화되는 특징을 검토하였다. 둘째, 각 시기별로‘개성조사’결과를 구체적으로 분석하여, 기록 방식의 변화가 가져온 효과를 비교 검토하고, 또한 각 시기별로 평정상의 특징을 비교 분석하였다. 셋째, 학생에 대한 ‘개성조사’라는 교육실천에 영향을 미친 학내·외 요인들을 살펴보고자 하였다. 마지막으로, 식민지교육에서 학생에 대한 인물평가가 갖는 사회적 기능에 대해 검토하고자 하였다. 전주고등보통학교에서 이루어진 ‘개성조사’는 학생 개인의 특성을 파악하여 잠재성을 개발하기 위한 교육적 목적을 갖는 것이 아니었다. 오히려 학생 유형을 분류하여 진학과 취업에 적합한 학생을 선별하여 구분하는 데 목적이 있었다. 또한 그것은 ‘모범학생’과 ‘불량학생’의 특징을 식별하고, 나아가 ‘충량한 국민’과 ‘불령선인’의 특성을 구성하는 것이기도 했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze the function of school records for student individuality focusing on secondary education in Korea during the early 20th century under Japanese Imperialism. At that time, the school records, named as individuality records , were very extensive including student s personalities, attitudes, ideological trends, and family backgrounds although the form of recording varied from school to school. This study analyzed the records produced in 1919-1945 at Jeonju Middle School, which was one of the most prestigious schools where graduates were expected to enter the colonial colleges. The school records were used as important data for college admissions as well as records of academic scores. For this goal, the form of school records was designed to classify student types in order to identify students suitable for advanced education. The individuality records constituted a combination of patterns of good students or bad students . In other words, the school recording system was not introduced to discover a student s individuality and to raise his potential. Rather, it was intended to reveal a student group s characteristics and to stamp them as potentially ineligible for advanced education or disloyal to Japanese Imperialism.
