가정해체를 경험한 이주여성의 자녀 언어 학습 경험에 관한 사례 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 가정해체를 경험한 국제결혼가정 초등학생 자녀의 한국어와 어머니의 언어인 모어, 정규 교육 과정의 영어 등 언어 학습 경험을 이주여성을 통해 탐색하는 데 있다. 2019년 2월부터 12월까지 약 6개월간 7명의 이주여성 연구참여자를 대상으로 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였으며, 그 중 5명의 사례를 활용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 분석한 결과, 가정해체를 경험한 이주여성의 자녀의 한국어 언어 학습경로는 ‘가정 내 한국어 학습’, ‘또래 관계 속의 한국어 학습’, ‘지역 시설과 교육 기관 활용 한국어 학습’으로, 한국어 외의 기타 언어 학습경로는 주로‘가정 내 기타 언어 학습’, ‘친정 방문 및 현지 생활을 통한 기타 언어 학습’, ‘지역 시설과 교육 기관 활용 기타 언어 학습’으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 언어 학습 과정 중의 어려움 및 시사점으로‘가정 내 부정확한 한국어 사용의 부작용’, ‘언어 치료에 대한 부정적 인식’, ‘미디어 사용은 곧 인터넷 중독’, ‘기타 언어 학습에 대한 고민과 우려’, ‘기타 언어 사용 및 학습 환경의 제한성’, ‘다중언어 학습과 자녀의 단일정체성’ 등을 핵심 내용으로 도출하였다. 이를 바탕으로 가정해체를 경험한 이주여성의 자녀를 위한 원활한 언어 학습을 위한 여러 가지 제안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This is a case study on the language learning experiences of children from broken multiethnic families that have immigrant mothers. The purpose of this study is to examine the language learning experiences of children from broken multiethnic families. First, the content covers the children’s experiences learning the Korean language, English, the mother’s native language, as well as others. Second, the study explores the difficulties in language learning and proposed support plans to address these issues. To achieve its aim, the study used qualitative research methods. In the study, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven families from February to December of 2019. The data compiled from the interviews were subsequently analyzed. The study focused on five families that fell within the target group. The results showed that the children’s Korean language learning consisted of “learning in home with mother,” “learning in peer relations,” and “learning in local facilities and educational institutions,” The difficulties in the Korean language learning process are: “adverse consequences of in-home learning,” “negative perceptions of speech therapy,” and a “negative perception of media.” The children’s experience learning other languages consisted of: “learning in home with the mother and the mother’s family”, “visits to the international marriage migrant women’s hometown” and “living in a foreign country,” as well as “learning in local facilities and educational institutions”. The implications for learning other languages are “concerns about the side-effects of multi-language learning,” “limitations of speaking and learning environments using other languages besides the home,” and “multi-language learning vs single-identity awareness of children.” Accordingly, this study makes a number of proposals pertaining to children’s language learning from broken multiethnic families.
