청소년 초기 집행기능 곤란, 인지적 공감, 또래 애착의 관계: 자아존중감의 매개된 조절 효과

국문 초록

공감과 또래 애착의 관계를 다룬 선행 연구는 많지만, 청소년기 공감의 저하가 또래 애착에 미치는 부정적 영향을 인지적 변인으로 설명하거나 이를 완화할 수 있는 변인을 검토한 연구는 부족하다. 본 연구는 청소년 초기 집행기능 곤란이 인지적 공감의 수준을 낮춤으로써 또래 애착에 부정적 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 집행기능 곤란이 인지적 공감에 미치는 부정적 영향이 자아존중감으로 조절될 수 있는지를 검토하였다. 이를 위해 한국 아동 패널 15차년도(2022년, 중학교 2학년) 조사에 참여한 1,243명의 자료를 PROCESS MACRO(7번)로 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 집행기능 곤란은 인지적 공감을 낮춤으로써 또래 애착에 부정적 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 집행기능 곤란의 간접 영향은 자아존중감에 의해 유의하게 조절되었으며, 자아존중감의 매개된 조절 효과는 자아존중감이 평균 이상인 경우에 유의하였다. 또한, 집행기능 곤란이 커질수록 인지적 공감의 수준이 낮고 결과적으로 또래 애착의 수준도 낮았으며, 이러한 경향은 자아존중감이 높은 그룹에서 상대적으로 강하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과에 근거하여 청소년 초기 인지적 공감을 통해 또래와의 애착을 강화하는 개입 방안을 집행기능 곤란 및 자아존중감과 관련하여 논하였다.

영문 초록

While the relationship between empathy and peer attachment is well-established, there is a lack of research that examines the cognitive factors contributing to the negative impact of cognitive empathy deficits on peer attachment during adolescence or explores potential buffering variables. This study investigates whether executive function(EF) difficulties in early adolescence reduce cognitive empathy levels, thereby negatively affecting peer attachment, and whether self-esteem can moderate the negative impact of EF difficulties on cognitive empathy. To do this, data from 1,243 participants in the 15th year of the Panel Study on Korean Children(2022, 2nd-year middle school students) were analyzed using PROCESS MACRO(model 7), yielding the following results: First, EF difficulties negatively impacted peer attachment by lowering cognitive empathy. Second, the indirect effect of EF difficulties was moderated by self-esteem, and this moderated mediation effect of self-esteem was statistically significant when self-esteem was above average. Additionally, greater EF difficulties were associated with lower levels of cognitive empathy and, consequently, lower levels of peer attachment. This tendency was relatively stronger among individuals with higher self-esteem. Based on these results, interventions aimed at improving peer attachment through cognitive empathy in early adolescence were discussed in relation to EF difficulties and self-esteem.
