교육사회학연구에 게재된 질적연구 논문동향 분석(1990-2023)

국문 초록

한국교육사회학회의 학술지 『교육사회학연구』에는 1990년 창간 이후 2023년까지 총 788편의 논문이 게재되었으며, 이 중 약 220편이 질적연구 논문이다. 질적연구는 교육사회학에서 맥락적이고 교수-학습 과정에 민감한 지식을 생산하며, 전통적인 교육 이해에 새로운 관점을 제시하는 데 기여해 왔다. 그러나 지금까지 교육사회학연구에 수록된 질적연구의 동향과 특성을 조명한 연구는 수행되지 않았다. 본 연구의 목적은 해당 기간 동안 게재된 질적연구 논문 220편을 분석하여 주요 동향과 특징을 도출하는 데 있다. 분석은 연구 영역 및 주제, 활용된 연구방법, 연구참여자, 자료수집 방법 등을 기준으로 수행되었으며, 연구 영역 및 주제는 교육사회학의 사회과학적 성격을 반영하여 사회, 경제, 문화, 정치 등으로 분류하였다. 연구방법은 내러티브, 현상학, 근거이론, 문화기술지, 사례연구, 생애사 연구, 자문화기술지, 통합연구, 담론분석, 내용분석, 기본질적연구 등 총 11가지로 분류하였다. 분석 결과, 질적연구는 양적·질적인 성장을 거치며 교육과 사회의 관계를 조명하는 데 기여해 왔으나, 연구주제의 다양성과 연구방법의 활용 측면에서는 보완할 여지가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 이러한 동향 및 성과 분석을 바탕으로, 향후 교육사회학 분야에서 질적연구가 나아가야 할 방향과 과제를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This article analyzes approximately 220 qualitative research articles published between 1990 and 2023 in The Korean Journal of Sociology of Education, which has produced a total of 788 publications during this period. Qualitative research in the sociology of education has produced context-sensitive, pedagogically responsive knowledge and introduced new perspectives that challenge traditional conceptions of education. Despite its contributions, no comprehensive study has yet examined the trends and characteristics of qualitative research within this journal. This study analyzes major trends and features of the 220 qualitative articles, focusing on research areas and topics, methodologies employed, research participants, and data collection methods. Research areas and topics were categorized into social, economic, cultural, and political domains, reflecting the social scientific nature of sociology of education. Methodologies were classified into eleven types: narrative research, phenomenological research, grounded theory, ethnography, case study, life history research, ethnography, mixed methods research, discourse analysis, content analysis, and basic qualitative research. The findings reveal that qualitative research has experienced both quantitative and qualitative growth, contributing to a deeper understanding of the relationship between education and society. However, there is still room for improvement in diversifying research topics and adopting a wider range of qualitative methodologies. Based on these results, this study proposes future directions and challenges for the advancement of qualitative research in the field of sociology of education.
