이원수의『잔디숲 속의 이쁜이』에 관한 비교문학적 소고

국문 초록

본고의 일차적인 목적은 이원수의 『잔디숲 속의 이쁜이』를 이해하고 작품에 대한 문학사적 평가를 객관적으로 내리는 것이다. 그러기 위해서 이 동화와 같은 유형에 속한 세계 동물 모험 장편 동화인 독일의『꿀벌 마야의 모험』, 베트남의『귀뚜라미 표류기』, 미국의『뉴욕에 간 귀뚜라미 체스터』의 사이에서 차이점과 유사점을 찾아 그 원인과 의미를 규명하여『잔디숲 속의 이쁜이』만의 특징을 조명하였다. 텍스트 분석 및 비교를 통해서『잔디숲 속의 이쁜이』가 완성도 높은 환상의 기법으로 사회의 모순과 시대정신을 보여주며 꿈과 희망을 심어주는 훌륭한 작품임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 동화의 성공 비결은 자유와 일탈의 상상력과 정치적 상상력이 서로 조화롭게 어울리고 있는 데에 있다. 따라서 이 동화는 아동 독자의 호기심, 모험심을 만족시킬 수 있는 흥미로운 동물 모험담인 동시에 독자들에게 사회 현실에 대한 폭넓은 이해 그리고 희망찬 미래에 대한 꿈을 갖게 해주는 유익한 작품으로 평가받을 만하다고 본다. 이러한 의미에서『잔디숲 속의 이쁜이』에 대한 문학사적 평가는 재고되어야 한다. 세계 아동문학의 지평에서 살펴봐도 이 작품은 충분히 ‘고전’으로 평가 받을 수 있다는 점이 확인되는 것이다.

영문 초록

The first goal of this thesis is to understand properly and make a literary historical estimation of animal adventure story Ypeuni in Forest of Grass (1971〜1973) by Lee Won-su (1911〜1981). To complete this goal, this thesis selected similar animal characters from comparable subject fairy tales such as The Adventures of Maya Bee (1912) by Waldemar Bonsels (1881〜1952), Diary of a Cricket 1941) by Tô Hoài (1920〜) and The Cricket in Times Square (1960) by George Selden Thompson (1929 〜1989). Through these literary works, this thesis found differences and similarities among them and studies the origin and meaning so that it could find what makes Ypeuni in Forest of Grass special. Through text analysis and comparison of foreign literary works, the thesis shows that Ypeuni in Forest of Grass is a great work that shows the contradictions of society, the spirit of the times and encourages hopes and dreams. The key to the success of this fairy tale is its harmony with imagery of freedom, escape and political imagination. For this, Ypeuni in Forest of Grass is an interesting animal adventure satisfying young reader's curiosity and spirit of adventures and becomes a valuable work for a wide understanding of society and encourages dreams of a hopeful future. In this way, this thesis suggests Ypeuni in Forest of Grass should be reconsidered. Ypeuni in Forest of Grass could be praised as a ‘classic' in prospect of world children’s literature.
