複文における｢ないと｣の条件的用法に関する一考察

국문 초록

This study focuses on the negative conditional form naito and aims to clarify its semantic functions and syntactic characteristics within complex sentences, specifically limited to its conditional usage. While previous research on Japanese conditional expressions has primarily examined forms such as to, tara, ba, and nara, few studies have treated naito as an independent object of analysis. In this investigation, examples were classified and examined from the perspectives of the grammatical form and desirability of the main clause. The results revealed that although naito is grammatically capable of connecting to both affirmative and negative main clauses, it is predominantly used in constructions that express undesirable outcomes, indicating a strong functional tendency toward evaluative usage. On the other hand, approximately 7% of the data demonstrated that naito can also co-occur with main clauses that convey positive judgments, recognitions, or institutional permissions. These examples suggest that naito can function as a logical or epistemic precondition, rather than exclusively implying negative consequences.

영문 초록

本稿は、否定条件形式｢ないと｣に注目し、その条件的用法に限定して、 複文における意味機能および構文的特徴を明らかにすることを目的とするものである。従来、日本語の条件表現に関する研究は｢と｣｢たら｣｢ば｣｢なら｣などの形式に焦点を当てたものが多く、｢ないと｣そのものを独立した分析対象とする研究は十分ではなかった。本調査では、主節の形および望ましさの観点から分類·検討を行った。その結果、｢ないと｣は形式的には主節の肯定形·否定形のいずれにも接続可能であるものの、意味的には圧倒的に望ましくない結果を導く用法に特化して使用される傾向が強いことが判明した。一方で、少数ではあるが、｢ないと｣が肯定的な判断や認識、制度的許容などを導く主節と共起する例も確認された。さらに、実際の発話用例を通して｢解説的注意喚起｣｢断定的評価｣｢感情的反応｣｢配慮的依頼｣｢警告｣｢客観的帰結｣といった使用場面を考察することで、｢ないと｣が語用論的に多義的かつ文脈依存的に運用される表現であることが確認された。今後は｢と｣など他の条件表現との対照的分析を進めるとともに、日本語教育の現場においては、構文の意味的偏りや用法の特徴を踏まえた教育的配慮が求められると考えられる。
