영어 비교과 운영을 통한 학업성취와 핵심역량 제고 연구 - K 대학교의 영어 비교과 프로그램을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 충청권의 K 대학에서 추진한 영어 비교과 프로그램이 학생들의 학업 성취와 핵심역량 향상에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 분석하고자 한다. 2024학년도 1학기에 영어 비교과 프로그램에 참여한 학생은 영어튜터링 44명, KU영어점프 101명, KUTALK 17명이었다. t검정과 교차분석을 통해 영어 비교과 프로그램의 효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 학생들의 학업성취에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, K 대학의 4대 핵심역량 중 협력적 소통역량과 글로컬 리더역량 향상에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 협력적 소통역량의 세부역량 중 의사소통능력과 대인관계능력 향상에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 글로컬 리더역량 중 외국어능력과 글로컬시민역량 향상에 긍정적 영향을 끼치고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 연구 결과는 영어 비교과 프로그램이 단순히 영어 실력 향상에만 도움을 주는 것이 아니라 대학의 교양 교과에서 제시하는 핵심역량 향상에도 도움이 된다는 점을 밝히는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze how the effects of the English extracurricular programs are operated for. Promoted by K University in the Chungcheong Province, these programs are designed for exploring extents of both students’ academic achievement and improvement of core competencies. Each number of students who participated in the first semester of 2024 is as follows: 44 in English tutoring, 101 in KU English Jump, and 17 in KUTALK. The effectiveness of the English extracurricular programs was analyzed through t-test and cross-analysis. As a result, these programs provide not only positive effects on students’ academic achievement but show enhancement on improving cooperative communication competency and glocal leadership competency among the four core competencies of K University. In addition, improving communication skills and interpersonal skills are remarkable elements among the detailed competencies of cooperative communication competencies; also, positive effects on improving foreign language skills and glocal citizenship competencies are outstanding among glocal leadership competencies. The results are meaningful in revealing that the English extracurricular programs trigger to improve English skills, as well as elevate students’ recognition on enhancing their core competencies.
