국문 초록

본 연구는 데이터 사회에서 젠더 관점의 데이터 리터러시 교육 필요성을 강조하며, E 대학교의 <빅데이터와 젠더> 교과목을 사례로 실행연구를 진행하였다. 데이터의 편향성은 알고리즘과 인공지능에 반영되어 사회적 불평등을 재생산할 수 있으며, 특히 젠더 편향은 여성과 소수자 집단의 목소리를 약화시키고 차별을 심화시킬 수 있다. 젠더 관점의 데이터 리터러시 교육은 데이터를 단순히 기술적으로 해석하고 활용하는 것을 넘어서, 데이터에 내재된 편향성과 문제점을 비판적으로 인식하고, 이를 통해 사회변화를 촉진하는 데 기여할 수 있다. 이 연구는 성인지 통계와 교차성 개념을 기반으로 젠더 데이터 리터러시 교육 모델을 제시하며, 이를 통해 사회적 불평등 해소를 위한 교육적 접근을 탐구한다. <빅데이터와 젠더> 교과목은 젠더에 대한 이론 교육과 성인지 통계를 활용한 데이터 분석 실습으로 구성되었으며, 학생들이 젠더 관점에서 데이터를 분석하고 이해하는 능력을 기르는 데 중점을 두었다. 이를 통해 학습자들이 데이터의 편향성을 인식하고, 성평등한 데이터 사회를 구축하기 위한 비판적 사고와 분석 능력을 함양할 수 있도록 하였다.

영문 초록

This study emphasizes the necessity of gender-sensitive data literacy education in the digital society through an action research analysis of the course “Big Data and Gender” at E University. Data bias can be embedded in algorithms and artificial intelligence, reproducing social inequalities. In particular, gender bias can marginalize the voices of women and minority groups, further deepening discrimination. Therefore, gender-sensitive data literacy education goes beyond the technical utilization and interpretation of data; it fosters critical awareness of biases and problematic patterns inherent in data, encouraging its use as a tool for social change. This study presents a gender data literacy education model based on gender-disaggregated statistics and the concept of intersectionality, exploring educational approaches to address social inequalities. The “Big Data and Gender” course consisted of theoretical lessons on gender and practical sessions using gender statistics for data analysis. The course was designed to help students develop the ability to analyze and understand data from a gender perspective, recognize biases, and enhance their critical thinking and analytical skills to contribute to building a more gender-equal data society.
