The Effects of Self-Regulation on the Academic Word Acquisition of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students with Learning Difficulties

국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 학습에 어려움이 있는 다문화학생의 학습어휘 습득을 위한 자기조절학습의 효과를 조사하는 것이었다. 이 연구는 단일사례연구 설계법을 이용하여 실시되었다. 2학년에 재학 중인 학습에 어려움이 있는 다문화 학생 3명이 이 연구에 참여하였다. 약 8주간 총15회기의 수업이 이루어졌다. 학생들은 기초선 단계에서는 명시적 교수를 이용한 어휘교수를 받았고, 중재단계에서는 명시적 교수에 자기조절학습 전략을 추가한 어휘교수를 받았다. 분석 결과, 학생들은 기초선 단계보다 중재단계에서 학습어휘검사에서 더 높은 성취도를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 자기조절학습이 추가 전략으로 효과적이었음을 보여주었다. 학생들의 전반적인 어휘 향상 정도를 측정해 본 결과, 실험 전에 비해 실험 후 두 배가 넘는 점수를 획득하였음을 확인하였다. 끝으로 논의와 후속 연구에 대한 제안점이 제시되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-regulation practices on acquisition of academic words by culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students with learning difficulties. This study was conducted using a single-subject design. Three second-grade CLD students with learning difficulties participated in this study. A total of 15 sessions of vocabulary instruction were conducted during an eight-week period. The students were provided explicit instruction only in the baseline phase; self-regulation practices were added in the intervention phase. A visual inspection of the data revealed that students showed higher performance on academic word acquisition testing in the intervention phase than in the baseline phase, demonstrating the additional effects of self-regulation practices. Further, vocabulary knowledge among the students more than doubled during the study. Lastly, discussion and suggestions for future research were provided.
