국문 초록

시대를 앞서간 전방위적 예술가로 20세기를 통틀어 미술의 모든 분야에서 활동했던 Bruno Munari(1902-1998)의 작품세계에서 책은 중요한 자리를 차지한다. 그 중에서는 어린이를 위한 그림책으로 분류할 수 있는 것도 다수 있는데, 이들은 페이퍼 엔지니어링의 간단한 장치를 사용할 뿐만 아니라 제본과 종이의 선택과 같은 책의 물성을 이용하고, 촉감에서부터 청각과 청각에 이르기까지 독자에게 다양한 체험을 선사한다. 이 연구에서는 무나리의 작품을 1945년 시리즈, 물성을 이용한 그림책, 빨간 모자를 통한 민담의 패러디로 나누어보았는데, 이 작품들은 현대 포스트모던 그림책의 특징인 놀이성과 행위하기, 메타픽션과 상호텍스트성을 보여주고 주변텍스트를 읽어야 하는 새로운 문해력을 요구하며, 텍스트의 의미는 독자의 적극적인 참여를 통해 완성된다. 이러한 무나리의 작품들은 그 발표 연대가 20세기 중반으로 현대 포스트모던 그림책의 발현에 훨씬 앞서지만, 여러 가지 측면에서 새롭게 확장될 그림책의 세계를 예고하고 있다.

영문 초록

Bruno Munari (1902-1998) was an undisputed genius much ahead of his time and his creativity reached every field of art. Books are also an important part of his art and some of them can be categorized as children’s picturebooks. These books made use of simple paper engineering and from binding to the choice of the paper, the materiality of the book as an object was much emphasized, offering various tactile, of sound, even of smell experience to the readers. For this study Munari’s children’s picturebooks were divided into 3 categories: 1945 series, picturebooks using the materiality of the book, and Folktale parody. Those books show very postmodern characteristics such as game and acting, and metafiction and intertextuality, a new kind of literacy needed for reading the peritext. Readers are also invited to active reading and make meanings. Those books were first published in the middle of the 20th Century, so historically before the full manifestation of the postmodern picturebook, but in the frame of contemporary postmodern picturebooks, Munari’s books in various aspects show those postmodern qualities and foresaw the further expansion of postmodern picturebooks.
