영·유아를 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육의 쟁점과 과제

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영·유아를 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육에서의 쟁점과 과제를 논의하는 것이다. 태블릿이 보급된 이래 마우스나 키보드에 비하여 손가락 움직임에 의해 손쉽게 기기를 사용하게 됨에 따라 영·유아를 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육의 접근성이 개선되었으나, 여전히 교육현장에서는 영·유아의 디지털 리터러시 지원 방안에 대한 정보가 부족한 상황이다. 이에 최근 해외연구를 토대로 영·유아를 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육에서의 쟁점과 과제를 분석한 결과, 영·유아의 기술적 지원을 위한 교사의 디지털 스캐폴딩이 필요하며 문자를 넘어서서 영·유아들이 디지털 플랫폼에서 이미지, 음향효과, 텍스트 등의 복합양식 텍스트로 의미를 만들기 때문에 복합양식 텍스트가 디지털 리터러시 교육과정에 포함되어야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 디지털 리터러시를 위한 새로운 교육 패러다임이 필요하며, 영·유아의 발달 적합성에 대한 고려 역시 필요한 것으로 보인다. 이러한 결과는, 교육혁신이 디지털 기기를 추가하거나 환경 구축 그 자체로 이루어지는 것이 아니며, 이를 활용하는 영·유아에 대한 이해와 교육적인 지원 고민이 디지털 기반 교육혁신의 전제조건임을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to discuss issues and tasks in digital literacy education for young children. Since the spread of tablets, the accessibility of digital literacy education for young children has improved as devices can be used more easily with finger movements compared to mice or keyboards. However, there is still a lack of information in the educational field on how to support digital literacy for them. Accordingly, as a result of analyzing recent studies in digital literacy education for young children, it is found that young children’s use of digital devices requires their teacher’s digital scaffolding. As young children create meaning multimodally by combining sounds, images, and text through digital platforms, it is necessary to include multimodal texts in early childhood education curriculum. Also, educational paradigm and developmental appropriateness needs to be considered for young children’s digital literacy. These results imply that either the digital device or environment itself does not guarantee educational changes; instead, it is a key to consider pedagogical strategies to support young children’s digital literacy based on their developmental appropriateness.
