저출산 시대, 영아 자녀와 놀이하는 다자녀 가정 직장인 어머니의 경험과 의미*

국문 초록

본 연구는 저출산 위기에 대한 대안 모색의 차원에서 영아 자녀와 놀이하는 다자녀 가정 직장인 어머니의 경험과 의미에 대해 알아보았다. 연구참여자들은 일주일에 1회 이상 일상에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 재료와 놀잇감으로 영아 자녀와 놀이 상호작용을 하였고, 놀이 과정과 영아 자녀의 반응을 영상으로 촬영하여 연구자에게 제공하였다. 연구자는 영아 자녀와 놀이 상호작용 반응 영상을 기록, 분석하는 한편, 이를 바탕으로 면담, 연구자 저널 등의 보완적 수단을 통해 보다 심층적인 질적 분석을 하였다. 연구 결과, 영아 자녀와 놀이 상호작용 경험을 하는 배경으로 미숙한 엄마이기 때문에 배우고 싶고, 잘 키우고 싶은 심정이 드러났다. 영아 자녀와 놀이 상호작용 경험의 의미는 긍정적인 발달을 돕는 놀이, 자녀와 소통되는 행복의 순간, 사회에 환원할 수 있는 자녀로 키우는 미래 사회공헌의 의미로 드러났다. 저출산 현상의 심화로 국가적, 사회적으로 출산장려가 중요한 관심사로 떠오르고 있는이 시기, 양육에는 고충만 있는 것이 아닌 긍정적인 가치와 의미가 있다는 점이 보다 강조될 수 있는 사회 분위기가 형성되기를 기대한다. 특히, 출산과 양육에 대한 사회적, 심리적인 측면의 변화가 저출산 문제해결의 실마리를 찾는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이라 기대하며, 영아 자녀와의 양질의 놀이 상호작용 경험이 양육의 당사자인 부모들에게 긍정적인 경험을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In the context of escalating low birth rates, this study examines the backgrounds and meanings behind the play interactions of working mothers with multiple children, particularly those with infants. Participants engaged in play interactions with their infants at least once a week using easily accessible materials and toys, documenting the play processes and infant responses through video recordings, which were subsequently provided to the researchers. The researchers analyzed these video records of infant-mother play interactions and conducted in-depth qualitative analyses using supplementary methods such as interviews and researcher journals. The findings revealed several key themes. Mothers engaged in play interactions with their children due to a perceived need to learn and improve as inexperienced mothers, driven by a desire to raise their children well. Knowledge, Attitude, and Skills: The play interactions were significant for mothers in terms of acquiring parenting knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The interactions also highlighted the happiness mothers experienced through communication with their children. There was a notable aspiration among mothers to raise children who could contribute positively to society in the future. Given the intensification of the low birth rate phenomenon and the subsequent national and societal focus on encouraging childbirth, this study approaches primary caregivers‘ experiences engaging in play interactions with their children from multiple perspectives. By providing insights into the various positive aspects of these real-life interactions, the study aims to contribute to finding solutions for the low birth rate crisis.
