온라인 국제교류 협력학습의 효과에 관한 연구 - 서울특별시교육청을 중심으로

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 서울시교육청이 운영하는 온라인 국제교류 협력학습이 초·중등 학습자의 ‘문화 간 의사소통 능력’과 ‘외국어 학습동기’에 미치는 효과를 분석하고, 학교급 및 수업 특성에 따른 차이를 실증적으로 검토하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 서울 소재 초·중·고 15개교의 학생 525명을 대상으로, 온라인 국제교류 협력학습 참여 여부에 따라 실험집단(271명)과 대조집단(254명)으로 구분하여 사전·사후 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문 도구는 선행연구에서 타당성이 입증된 두 종류의 척도를 사용하였으며, 효과 검증에는 단변량 공분산분석(ANCOVA)과 다중회귀분석을 적용하였다. 연구결과: 온라인 국제교류 협력학습은 문화 간 의사소통 능력의 전반적 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 다섯 하위 변인 모두에서 실험집단이 대조집단보다 유의하게 높았다(특히 상호작용참여도, 상호작용 향유도·자신감에서 비교적 큰 효과). 외국어 학습동기 역시 네 하위 변인 모두 유의했으며, 그중 이상적 제2언어 자아의 효과가 가장 크게 나타났다. 또한 수업 시수는 ICC에서 유의한 긍정 효과를 보였고, 실시간-비실시간 병행과 한국어 병행 사용은 두 영역에서 긍정적 영향을 보였으며, 동아리 수업 참여는 학습동기에서 추가적인 상승 효과가 확인되었다. 결론: 온라인 국제교류 협력학습은 학습자의 상호문화적 역량 및 외국어 학습동기 향상에 효과적인 프로그램으로 확인되었다. 특히 다국가 및 다언어 기반 수업 모델은 문화 간 상호이해를 심화시키고, 자기주도적 학습을 촉진하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study examined the effects of an online international collaborative learning program implemented by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on elementary and secondary students' intercultural communicative competence (ICC) and foreign language learning motivation. It also empirically analyzed differences by school level and instructional variables. Methods: A pretest-posttest survey was administered to 525 students from fifteen elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul. Based on program participation, students were classified into an experimental group (n = 271) and a comparison group (n = 254). Two validated scales from prior research were employed. Program effects were examined using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and multiple regression. Results: The program positively affected ICC, with statistically significant gains across all five subdimensions (with relatively larger effects for interactional participation, enjoyment, and confidence). For foreign language motivation, all four subdimensions were significantly higher in the experimental group, with the largest effect in the Ideal L2 Self. Additionally, instructional factors showed differential contributions: the number of class hours positively predicted ICC (but not motivation); using both synchronous and asynchronous activities and integrating Korean alongside English positively predicted both ICC and motivation; and club-based classes further enhanced motivation. Conclusion: The online international collaborative learning model was effective in enhancing students' ICC and foreign language learning motivation. In particular, multilingual and multinational learning models contributed to deepening cross-cultural understanding and promoting learner autonomy.
