영문 초록

The objective of this study is to explore and illuminate the consciousness orientation in Yi Cheong Jun`s Novels. The result through this study will be contributed to understand the feature of metaphysical dimension of literature, especial contrastive to socialist realism. The methodology chosen revolves around a study of metaphysical dimension, while method of synthetic hermeneutic is applied for the analysis of his works. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, The Idiot and The Dullard `병신과 머저리‘ and Descend From Heaven to the Humble `낮은 데로 임하소서’ are directed toward metaphysical orientation of individual consciousness. We meet a medical doctor, hero who suffers great spiritual torture because he shot a friendly soldier for Korean War in the former. And the latter makes us much impressed by the story-line. hero in this work recover from perversioning of Christian faith. He becomes a pastor. Second, The City of Cruelty `잔인한 도시‘ and The Paradise, Tours `당신들의 천국’ are directed toward metaphisical orientation of social consciousness. The former tells us the story about a man released from a penitentiary. He is greatly disillusioned at a birds-seller`s doing hypocrasy. He sell the birds, symbolizing freedom. But he is a hypocrite. He cuts the inner wings of 곧 birds, and catches them again. The latter tells us the story about a leper colony. The new director of leper colony about a leper colony. The new director of leper colony hospital trys to establish a lepers` paradise with them unselfishly. He is transferred to another hospital by the provincial government unsuccessfully. But this nowel make us realize the importance of consonance of `freedom` and `Love`. Third, Hidden Finger `숨은 손가락‘ and white clothes `흰옷’ are directed toward physical orientation of social consciousness. In the former we meet a cruel, tricky guy(a communist). He inflicts punishment his(anti-communist) neighbor. In the latter we meet five communists. Especially a principal and a woman teacher in a primary school were the active communists. They became the partisans and were killed in the end. It was the event long years ago. A young teacher, new comer, performs a memorial service, shaman ritual for the deads with the primary school children. They wear the white clothes, Mourning dress. Fourth, Not Flowing River ` 흐르지 않는 강‘ is directed forward physical orientation of individual consciousness. Hero in this novel is th man of savageness. The writer likes the natural being itself. He disgusts the urban communities. HE is a ante- Modernist in this respect. So he pursuits primitive natural veing as everlasting substance. In short, Yi Cheong Jun is the writer who is oriented to metaphysical dimension in human life, the essential qualities in phenomena, `being`.
