국문 초록

본 연구는 Olsen의 '삶 중심 교육'의 관점에서 ‘삶과 연계한 교육’의 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 국가 교육과정에서 강조되는 ‘삶과 연계한 교육’은 학생 주도성, 학생 주체성, 실생활 연계, 실제 학습, 실제 문제 중심 학습 등으로 다양하게 이해되고 있어 그 의미가 명확하지 않은 상황이다. 이에 '삶 중심 교육'을 구현하는 지역사회학교 운동의 선구자인 Olsen의 '삶 중심 교육'을 문헌연구를 통하여 살펴보고자 했다. Olsen은 지구공동체의 ‘삶’과 생존 위기 시대에 삶을 개선하는 인재를 양성하는 교육혁신의 방향을 제시했다. 그는 ‘삶’을 학생 개인에 따라 다른 것이 아니라 보편적인 것이라고 보고, 이에 근거하여 일관된 교육과정을 구성하며, 학교는 주변 마을을 문제의 발견과 해결의 실험실로 활용하여 더 넓은 지역사회에 기여하는 인재를 양성하고자 했다. 이런 Olsen의 '삶 중심 교육'을 학습자 중심 교육, 실제 학습, 마을교육 등과 비교검토하면서 ‘삶과 연계한 교육’이 가진 여러 의미들을 논의했다. 연구결과, Olsen의 '삶 중심 교육'은 ‘삶과 연계한 교육’에 대하여 시대적 위기와 ‘삶의 개선’, 그리고 학교교육과정과 지역사회의 관계 속에서 이해하도록 도울 수 있다. 이에 ‘삶과 연계한 교육’은 학습소재나 실용성을 넘어서 교육과정 및 학교와 지역과의 관계를 재설계하는 방향에서 더욱 명확하게 이해될 수 있음을 논의했다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the meaning of ‘education connected to students' lives" from the perspective of Olsen's life-centered education. The concept of "education connected to students' lives," emphasized in the national curriculum, is understood in various ways, including student initiative, student autonomy, real-life connections, authentic learning, and real problem-based learning, leading to a lack of clarity in its meaning. Therefore, this study sought to examine Olsen's life-centered education, a pioneer of the community school movement that embodies life-centered education, through literature research. Olsen presented a direction for educational innovation that nurtures talent to improve "life" in the global community and in an era of survival crisis. He viewed "life" as universal rather than different for each student, and based on this, he constructed a consistent curriculum. He aimed to nurture talent who could contribute to the wider community by using the local-community as a laboratory for problem discovery and resolution. This study discussed the various meanings of "education connected to students' lives" by comparing and reviewing Olsen's life-centered education with learner-centered education, authentic learning, and community education. The research results indicate that Olsen's life-centered education can help understand "education connected to students' lives" in the context of contemporary crises, "improvement of life," and the relationship between school curriculum and the community. Therefore, this study argues that "education connected to students' lives" can be more clearly understood as a perspective that redesigns the relationship between curriculum, schools and the community in the direction of future education, beyond learning materials or practicality.
