국문 초록

본 연구는 청년자영업자의 성과가 어떤 경로를 거쳐 창출되는지 메커니즘 차원에서 규명하고, 균형성과관리(Balanced Scorecard, BSC)가 그 경로를 설명함에 적합한 분석 틀인지 실증적으로 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기존 연구는 청년자영업자의 성과 영향 요인을 개별적 분석으로 다루고 있어, 이러한 영향 요인들이 재무성과로 어떻게 이어지는지 구조적으로 제시하지 못한 한계가 있으며 본 연구는 이를 보완한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이에 학습과 성장, 내부 프로세스, 고객, 재무로 구성된 BSC 네 가지 관점을 중심으로 이들 간의 인과관계 경로와 매개효과 검정을 수행하였다. 청년자영업자 233명의 유효표본으로 확인적 요인분석(Confirmatory Factor Analysis, CFA), 구조방정식모형(Structural Equation Modeling, SEM), 부트스트랩(재표본 2,000회)을 분석 도구로 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 학습과 성장은 내부 프로세스에, 내부 프로세스는 고객에, 고객은 재무적 관점에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 Holmbeck(1997)의 매개효과 요건을 충족하여 완전매개 구조가 지지되었으며, 구체적으로 학습과 성장과 고객 사이에서는 내부 프로세스의 완전매개, 내부 프로세스와 재무 사이에서는 고객의 완전매개, 학습과 성장과 재무 사이에서는 내부 프로세스와 고객 관점의 완전이중매개가 확인되었다. 이를 통해 청년자영업자의 성과 관점 간 경로는 단계적·순차적으로 이루어짐을 확인하였다. 즉, 무형 역량의 효과는 곧바로 재무로 나타나기보다 운영 고도화와 고객 경험 개선을 거쳐 재무성과로 이어지는 성과 창출 메커니즘이 작동한다. 따라서 특정 단계의 취약성은 다음 단계의 성과 약화로 확산될 수 있으므로, 단계별 역량을 체계적으로 강화하는 개선 전략이 성과 제고에 효과적이다. 본 연구는 청년자영업자 맥락에서 BSC가 전제하는 선행동인과 후행결과의 연쇄적 인과관계가 유효하게 작동함을 실증하여 관련 연구의 범위를 확장하였고, 향후 성과 단계별 측정 지표와 정책 설계의 기초자료로 기능할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates, from a mechanism perspective, how performance is generated among young self-employed and empirically tests whether the Balanced Scorecard(BSC) provides an appropriate managerial framework to explain those pathways. By moving beyond correlations among individual factors, the study addresses a gap in the literature by structurally specifying how non-financial antecedents connect to financial outcomes. Using 233 usable responses from young self-employed, we conducted confirmatory factor analysis(CFA), structural equation modeling(SEM), and bootstrapping(2,000 resamples) to examine path coefficients and mediation effects. The results show a sequential structure across BSC perspectives: learning and growth positively affect internal processes; internal processes positively affect the customer perspective; and the customer perspective positively affects the financial perspective. Meeting Holmbeck’s(1997) criteria for mediation supports a complete mediation structure—internal processes completely mediate the relationship between learning and growth and the customer perspective; the customer perspective completely mediates the relationship between internal processes and the financial perspective; and the relationship between learning and growth and the financial perspective is fully (double) mediated by internal processes and the customer perspective. These findings confirm a stepwise, sequential causal chain among the BSC perspectives: the effects of intangible capabilities are not translated directly into financial outcomes but are transmitted through operational enhancement and improvements in customer experience. Accordingly, vulnerabilities at one stage may propagate to performance deterioration at the subsequent stage, and strategies that systematically strengthen stage-specific capabilities are effective for performance improvement. By demonstrating that the BSC’s assumed chain of antecedents and lagging outcomes operates effectively in the context of young self-employed businesses, this study extends the scope of related research and provides a foundation for developing stage-specific performance metrics and policy design.
