배경 및 목적: 그림 이름대기 과제는 실어증 환자의 언어능력을 평가하는 데 널리 활용되고 있다. 그러나 표준화된 시각자료의 부재와오래된 도구의 지속적 사용은 평가와 중재에 사용되는 그림 선택에 있어 유의한 변수로 작용한다. 따라서 언어재활사들은 평가와 치료에서 효과적이고 적절한 그림을 선택해야 한다. 본 연구는 칸나다어를 사용하는 실어증 환자를 대상으로 실물 사진, 흑백 선화, 그래픽이미지 등 다양한 그림 유형이 단어 훈련에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법: 35세에서 59세의 실어증 환자 16명이 연구에 참여하였다. 훈련은 사전-중재, 중재, 사후-중재, 사후 추적의 네 단계로, 모든 참여자는 세 가지 그림 유형을 활용한 총 여섯 차례의 개별 회기에 참여하였다. 각 단계에서 이름대기 정확도를 측정하여 자극의 효과를 검증하였다. 결과: 사전-중재에 비해 사후-중재 후의 이름대기 정확도가 향상되었다. 그림 유형 중 실물 사진이 사후 및 추적 평가에서 가장 뚜렷한 효과를 보였다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구는 실어증환자의 재활에서 그림 유형 선택의 중요성을 강조한다. 실물 사진이 가장 효과적인 것으로 나타나 임상 현장에서 우선적으로 활용될 수있음을 시사한다. 이러한 결과는 임상적 의사결정을 위한 기초 근거를 제공하며, 향후 치료에 사용할 표준화된 시각 자료 개발의 필요성을 뒷받침한다.

영문 초록

Objectives: Picture-naming tasks are widely used to assess language abilities in Persons with Aphasia (PWAs). However, the lack of standardized visual materials and the continued use of outdated assessment tools has resulted in significant variability in the use of images. Consequently, it is essential for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to carefully select effective and appropriate images for both assessment and intervention. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the influence of different image types—real images, black-and white line drawings, and graphical images—on word training in Kannada-speaking PWAs. Methods: Sixteen PWAs, aged between 35 to 59 years, participated in the study. The training was structured into four phases: pre-treatment, treatment, post-treatment, and follow up phases. Each participant received training using all three image types across six individual sessions. Naming accuracy was measured at each phase to assess the effectiveness of the stimuli. Results: Findings indicated a significant improvement in naming accuracy from pre- to post-treatment phases (p<.05), demonstrating the efficacy of image-based training. Among the three image types, real photographs yielded the most robust and sustained effects, showing greater gains in both the post-treatment and follow-up assessments compared to line drawings and graphical images. Conclusion: The study highlights the critical role of image selection in aphasia rehabilitation. Real images were found to be more effective than other image types in facilitating naming accuracy, suggesting their preferential use in clinical practice. These findings offer preliminary evidence to inform clinical decision-making and support the development of standardized visual materials for therapeutic use with PWAs.
