국문 초록

본고는 김중혁의 여러 소설 속 죽음이 형상화되는 방식에 있어 모빌리티의 작동을 특징으로 부각하며 그 의미를 밝히고자 한다. 모든 것이 빠르게 유동하는 현대 사회에서 개인의 존재는 사물과 마찬가지로 쉽게 쓸모를 다하는 것으로 환기되기에 죽음에 대한 인식과 의미 역시 변화한다. 김중혁의 소설들은 기술 진보와 유행 변화의 끝없는 유동성 속에 쓰레기가 되는 사물처럼 인간 역시 쓰임새를 잃고 잉여로 버려지는 것으로 죽음을 서사화하며, ｢무방향 버스｣나 ｢보트가 가는 곳｣, ｢휴가 중인 시체｣ 등에서 죽음을 향한 이동으로서 삶의 허무를 보여준다. 그렇지만 김중혁의 소설에서 죽음을 향한 모빌리티는 삶에 대한 비극적 전망에 머무르지 않으며, 모빌리티를 통해서 죽음을 동반한 삶에 대한 새로운 인식이나 가치, 태도를 형상화하는 것으로 나아간다. ｢바나나 주식회사｣나 ｢무방향 버스｣, ｢에스키모, 여기가 끝이야｣ 등에서는 변화하지 않는 기술, 사물, 인간이 쓰레기가 되는 현실 속 다른 방식의 모빌리티를 통해 존재의 가치를 일깨우고 죽은 자에 대한 애도를 수행하는 서사를 보여준다. 또한 『좀비들』이나 『미스터 모노레일』, 『나는 농담이다』 등에서는 죽음을 향해 나아가는 도정에서 죽음과 이어진 삶을 농담과 놀이, 유희와 연대로 긍정하는 서사를 보여준다. 이들 장편소설에서 죽음을 향한 이동은 농담이나 놀이 가운데 타자와의 공존, 나아가 다른 차원과의 얽힘을 환기하는 것으로 나타난다. 김중혁의 소설들에서 모빌리티로 환기되는 죽음은, 삶을 통해 죽음에 이르듯 죽음을 통해 삶에 이르거나(『좀비들』, 『당신의 그림자는 월요일』, ｢크라샤｣) 죽음과 삶이 공존하는(『나는 농담이다』, 『딜리터-사라지게 해드립니다』) 얽힘과 교차로 나타나는 것이다. 이처럼 김중혁의 소설에서 삶과 죽음은 일직선상에 연결되어 이동 중에 있는 것이면서 서로 교차하는 가운데 죽음에서 삶으로 얽히기도 하는 다양한 모빌리티로 상상된다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to highlight the function of mobility in the way death is depicted in several of Kim Jung-hyuk’s novels and to examine its meaning. In modern society, that everything flows rapidly, the existence of an individual is perceived as something that can easily become useless like an object, and so the perception and meaning of death also change. Kim Jung-hyuk's novels narrate death as a human being who loses his use and is discarded as surplus, just like objects that become trash in the endless fluidity of technological advancement and changing trends, and show the futility of life as a mobility toward death in works such as , , and . However, in Kim Jung-hyuk's novel, mobility toward death does not remain a tragic outlook on life, but rather, through mobility, moves on to embody new perceptions, values, and attitudes toward life accompanied by death. , , and present narratives that awaken the value of existence and mourn the dead through different types of mobility in a reality where unchanging technology, objects, and humans become trash. Also, such as , , and presents a narrative that affirms life connected to death with jokes, play, amusement, and solidarity in the journey toward death. In these novels, the mobility toward death appears as a joke or a play that evokes coexistence with others and even entanglement with other dimensions. In Kim Jung-hyuk's novels, death, which is evoked by mobility, appears as an entanglement and intersection where death reaches life as it reaches death through life (, , ) or where death and life coexist (, ). In this way, in Kim Jung-hyuk's novels, life and death are imagined as a diverse mobility that is connected in a straight line and is in movement, but also intersects with each other and becomes entangled from death to life.
