임피제 신부의 4-H 활동 및 특징

국문 초록

대한민국 명예국민인 故임피제(P. J. McGlinchey, 1928~2018) 신부와 관련한 연구가 여러 방면에서 진행되고 있다. 그러나 임피제 신부가 실천한 다양한 활동 중 4-H 활동에 관한 구체적인 연구는 이루어지지 않았다. 연구자는 임피제 신부가 1960년 직접 작성한 자료, 기존의 연구·문헌·기사자료 및 인터뷰를 종합·분석하여 그가 한림 지역을 중심으로 진행한 4-H 활동 및 특징을 도출하고자 하였다. 이에 한국 및 제주의 1950년대 및 1960년대 초반까지의 4-H 활동 내용을 살펴보았다. 그리고 임피제 신부가 주도 및 관여한 4-H 활동을 4-H 활동 계기 및 조직구성, 4-H 활동, 4-H 활동시설 및 지원 측면에서 탐색하였다. 최종적으로 탐색한 내용을 종합·분석하였고, 4-H 활동 및 교육적 측면으로 구분하여 특징을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

Research on Father P. J. McGlinchey(1928-2018), who was posthumously awarded the status of Honorary National of the Republic of Korea, has spanned multiple disciplines. However, there has been no specific research on the 4-H activities he conducted among his diverse works. This study aims to synthesize and analyze materials personally written by Father McGlinchey in 1960, along with existing research, literature, articles, and interviews, to deduce the characteristics of his 4-H activities. To this end, the study first examined the content of 4-H activities in Korea and Jeju from the 1950s to the early 1960s. Then, Father McGlinchey's 4-H initiatives were examined in terms of the motivation behind the activities, the organizational structure, the specific programs implemented, and the facilities and support systems involved. Based on this exploration, the study synthesized and analyzed the findings, from which key characteristics were derived in relation to both practical 4-H activities and educational aspects.
