국문 초록

본 연구는 타이완 가오슝의 보얼예술특구를 중심으로, 유휴공간의 문화예술적 재생전략과 시사점을 분석하였다. 보얼예술특구는 과거 항만창고였던 공간을 문화예술중심지로 전환하면서 민관협력, 지역주민의 참여, 정책적 지원, 국제적 네트워크 구축 등 복합적 전략을 통해 공간 또는 도시재생의 새로운 모델을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 문헌고찰, 현지조사, 이해관계자 인터뷰를 바탕으로, 특구의 공간재생 과정에서채택된 주요 전략과 정책 요인을 분석하고, 공간 전환이 지역사회에 미친 사회적·문화적 영향, 그리고 타도시 재생 모델에 주는 시사점을 도출하였다. 특구는 역사적 유산을 현대적 문화콘텐츠로 재해석하여 도시 브랜드를 강화하고, 주민참여를 통해 지속가능한 지역 문화생태계를 조성했으며, 국제교류를 통해 글로벌 예술 허브로서 자리매김하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 사례는 유사한 도시재생 프로젝트에서 역사성, 참여성, 국제성을 결합한 다층적 전략의 중요성을 시사하며, 향후 동아시아 도시재생 담론과 실천에 유용한 통찰을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study examines the case of the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, analyzing the strategies and implications of utilizing cultural and artistic regeneration of idle spaces to enhance urban identity and revitalize the local community. Originally a port warehouse, the Pier-2 Art Center has been transformed into a cultural and artistic hub through multifaceted strategies, including public-private collaboration, community participation, policy support, and the establishment of international networks. Drawing on literature review, field research, and stakeholder interviews, this study identifies the key strategies and policy factors involved in the regeneration process of Pier-2 and explores the socio-cultural impacts of spatial transformation on the local community as well as its implications for urban regeneration models in other cities. The analysis reveals that the Pier-2 Art Center has successfully reinterpreted historical assets into contemporary cultural content to strengthen the city‘s brand, fostered a sustainable local cultural ecosystem through active resident participation, and positioned itself as a global arts hub via international exchanges. This case highlights the importance of a multilayered strategy that integrates historical significance, community engagement, and global connectivity, providing valuable insights for similar urban regeneration projects in East Asia and beyond.
