국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 최근 10여 년 동안의 자문화기술지 연구의 동향을 검토함으로써 새로운 연구방법론으로서 자문화기술지가 한국적 상황에서 어떻게 수용되고 발전해왔는지를 체계적으로 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 자문화기술지가 한국에 본격적으로 소개된 2010년부터 2022년 8월 사이에 발간된 학술지 논문(N=272편), 전문서적(N=3편)을 양적 및 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구결과를 간략하게 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교육학 분야 자문화기술지 연구는 한국 자문화기술지 연구의 90% 이상을, 그리고 자전적 자문화기술지 유형이 총 211편으로 한국 자문화기술지 연구의 약 80%에 해당할 만큼 절대 다수를 차지하였다. 둘째, 자기 노출을 전제로 하는 자문화기술지의 방법론적 특성은 자기통제와 겸양을 중시하는 한국학계에 쉽사리 받아들여지지 않을 것이라 예상되었지만, 자기노출에 대한 비판적인 시선이 있을 것으로 예측되었던 한국학계에서 자문화기술지는 양적으로 큰 성장을 이루었다. 셋째, 한국의 자문화기술지 연구동향은 분석적 차원의 자문화기술지보다는 자전적이고 감성적인 차원의 자문화기술지가 강세를 보이는 것으로 나타났으나 인류학, 사회학에 바탕을 둔 분석적 자문화기술지 유형은 상대적으로 소수에 머물렀다. 넷째, 한국의 자문화기술지 연구동향은 서구의 자문화기술지에 대한 소개 차원을 넘어서, 한국의 자문화기술지를 심층적으로 이해하고 분석하려는 특징을 나타내었다. 한국 자문화기술지의 수용과 발전 과정을 천착한 이 연구의 결과는 한국 자문화기술지의 방법론적 위상과 가능성을 조명하고, 한국 자문화기술지의 심층적 이해와 토착적 발전을 촉진하는 데 기여할 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is to systematically analyze how autoethnography has been accepted and developed as a new research methodology in the Korean context by examining the trends in autoethnography research over the past 10 years. To this end, we quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed academic journal articles(N=272) and professional books(N=3) published between 2010, when autoethnography was first introduced in Korea, and August 2022. The results of the study are briefly presented as follows. First, autoethnography research in the field of education accounted for more than 90% of autoethnography research in Korea, and the autobiographical ethnography type accounted for an absolute majority, accounting for approximately 80% of autoethnography research in Korea, with a total of 211 articles. Second, the methodological characteristics of autoethnography, which presupposes self-disclosure, were not expected to be readily accepted by the Korean academic community, which values self-control and humility. However, autoethnography has grown significantly in quantity in the Korean academic community, where it was predicted that there would be a critical view on self-disclosure. Third, the research trends of autoethnography research in Korea showed that autobiographical and emotional autoethnography was stronger than analytical autoethnography, but the types of analytical autoethnography based on anthropology and sociology were relatively small. Fourth, the research trends of autoethnography research in Korea showed characteristics that went beyond the introduction level of autoethnography in Western and sought to deeply understand and analyze autoethnography in Korea. The results of this study, which delved into the process of acceptance and development of autoethnography in Korea, will shed light on the methodological status and potential of autoethnography in Korea and contribute to promoting in-depth understanding and indigenous development of autoethnography in Korea.
