국문 초록

본 연구는 대덕구 용호동 탑제를 중심으로, 지역 민속신앙이 구술을 통해 어떻게 기억되고 변화하는지를 분석하였다. 구술채록을 통해 탑제가 단순한 신앙 의례가 아니라 공동체 정체성을 형성하고 재구성하는 사회적 수행 행위임을 밝혔다. 특히, 석탑이라는 특정 장소에서 반복적으로 이루어지는 제의가 공동체 기억을 보존하고 재생산하는 기제로 작용함을 확인하였다. 세대별 구술 분석 결과, 노년층은 탑제를 신성한 의례로 인식한 반면, 젊은 세대는 이를 문화유산이나 지역축제로 인식하고 있었다. 이는 민속신앙이 신앙적 실천에서 문화적 자원으로 전환되고 있음을 보여준다. 또한, 석탑은 단순한 신앙의 대상이 아니라 마을의 역사와 정체성이 응축된 ‘기억의 장소’로 기능한다는 점에서, 장소성과 공동체 정체성 형성의 관계를 드러낸다. 본 연구는 민속신앙이 변화 속에서 어떻게 지속되는지를 분석했다는 점에서 의의를 가지며, 향후 구술채록과 민속지 연구의 결합을 통해 보다 정밀한 후속 연구가 필요함을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study examines how regional folk beliefs are remembered and transformed through oral narratives, focusing on the Tapje ritual in Yongho-dong, Daedeok-gu. Through oral history recordings, the study reveals that Tapje is not merely a religious ritual, but a form of social performance that constructs and reconstructs community identity. It particularly confirms that the repeated enactment of the ritual at a specific site—the stone pagoda—serves as a mechanism for preserving and reproducing collective memory. An analysis of generational differences in oral accounts shows that older participants perceive Tapje as a sacred rite closely tied to the well-being of the village, while younger generations regard it as cultural heritage or a local festival. This demonstrates a shift in folk belief from religious practice to cultural resource. Moreover, the stone pagoda is not simply a religious object but functions as a “site of memory,” where the village’s history and collective identity are condensed. This underscores the connection between place and the formation of community identity.
