정조 御筆의 不醉無歸的 심미의식 - 수원화성의 현판 書를 중심으로

국문 초록

정조는 조선조 제22대 임금이자, 詩ㆍ書ㆍ畵에 두루 능한 조선 후기의 대표적인 서화가이다. 그는 문체반정 즉, 서체반정으로 국정의 대업을 이루었지만, 서화를 不醉無歸的 心畫의 차원에서 인식함으로써 자신만의 개성적이고 독창적인 서풍을 심화시켜 나갔다. 바꾸어 말하면, 세상과 소통하고 자신의 생각과 뜻을 전하고자 눈으로 읽고 마음으로 터득한 주체적 자각을 통해 전통 서예를 새롭게 이해하여 자신만의 독자적인 서풍을 이루었다. 정조 어필서인 화성행궁 내 현판 書의 기저를 이루는 미의식은 ‘왕도정치 실현적 志趣와 특별권력 수단적 風格, 그리고 사표ㆍ경계 현시적 意趣’로 요약 가능하며, 이는 정조 어필 현판 書 창작 세계의 근원이 되고 있다. 따라서 화성행궁 내 어필의 현판 書에는 內聖外王的 왕도정치 실현을 위한 미의식이 응축되어, 인간의 본질적인 仁心의 요구에 부합하는 德政의 도덕적 내용이 포함되어 있다. 또한 법 적용 이전에 특별권력적 수단으로서의 심미風格을 포상이라는 정치적 탕평으로 보여주고 있으며, 사표⸱경계적 표상으로서의 심미의취 또한 孝誠을 통해 극명하게 드러난다. 결국 화성행궁 내 정조 어필 현판 書의 독자적인 심미의식은 不醉無歸的 民意와 生意를 존중하는 예술적 추구이자 지향이요, 유가의 仁政이라는 時中精神의 中和미학적 발로에 뿌리를 두고 있다는 점에서 그 가치와 위상을 높게 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Jeongjo was the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty and a representative artist of the late Joseon Dynasty who was skilled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. Although he accomplished the great work of national administration by reforming the writing style, he deepened his individual and original writing style by recognizing calligraphy and painting as a picture of the mind with the attitude of not going back unless getting drunk. In other words, to communicate with the world and convey his thoughts and meaning, he gained a new understanding of traditional calligraphy through subjective self-awareness by reading with his eyes and learning with his heart. Thus, he eventually created his unique calligraphy style. The aesthetic consciousness contained in King Jeongjo’s handwriting on the signboards within Hwaseong Haenggung Palace can be summarized as a willingness to realize the benevolent royal government, a style of taking advantage of authority, and an intention to paragon, caution, and indication. It has become the source of the world of creating King Jeongjo’s handwriting on signboards. Accordingly, the King’s handwriting on the signboards within the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace condenses the aesthetic consciousness to realize a benevolent royal government by being sage inside and kingly outside. It also contains the moral content of a virtuous government that meets the demands of the essential benevolent mind of humans. In addition, before legal application, aesthetic style as a means of authority is shown as political fairness through rewards. This aesthetic intention as a symbol of paragon or caution is also clearly revealed through filial piety and sincerity. Consequently, King Jeongjo’s unique aesthetic consciousness through his handwriting on the signboards within Hwaseong Haenggung Palace can be highly evaluated in that it is an artistic pursuit and aims to respect the public mind and life intention of not going back unless getting drunk, and is rooted in Confucian benevolent government, the equilibrium-harmony aesthetic expression of the timely mean.
